Helen Hayes and her husband Charles MacArthur adopted his illegitimate son, James. As a child star, James MacArthur appeared in several movies for the Disney Studios. His best known role is arguably that of Danny "Danno" Williams in the popular American TV series "Hawaii Five-O" (Book 'em, Danno!). He died of natural causes in 2010 at the age of 72.

He played a character named "Windy" when working with William Boyd (Hopalong Cassidy). When he left Boyd's employ over a salary dispute, he was legally forbidden to use the name "Windy", so he started using "Gabby" as a nickname. He passed away in 1969 from cardiovascular disease at age 83.
