Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who was known as the 'King of the Four Quarters of the Earth'?

Answer: Naram-Sim

Naram-Sim was the grandson of Sargon and ruler of the ancient Akkadian kingdom of Babylon. During his lifetime (22nd century B.C.) the Akkadian kingdom was overrun by the Gutians. A giant stele, located in the Louvre, is one of the primary remaining objects of his reign in Mesopotamia.
2. Who was the first president of the First Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam)?

Answer: Ngo Dinh Diem

Diem was an American educated member of the elite that was hand-picked to rule South Vietnam after the country split in two in October 1955. Never truly much of a leader, he was assassinated shortly before John F. Kennedy in November, 1963.
3. Which writer helped Henry Miller publish 'Tropic of Cancer'?

Answer: Nin

Anais Nin was a French diarist, and lover of Henry Miller for some time. Her very personal works explore sexuality at a time when it was rather improper for a woman to do so! Her greatest novel was 'The House of Incest', from 1936 ... but she is best known for her diaries, which she published.
4. Which influential, prize-winning Latin American poet wrote 'Espana en el Corazon'?

Answer: Neruda

Pablo Neruda was one of the great Latin American poets, and the second Chilean (after Gabriela Mistral) to win a Nobel Prize for Literature. He also happened to be the only author employing a pseudonym to win the Nobel Prize for Literature...his birthname is Neftali Ricardo Reyes Basualto. He lived from 1904-1973.
5. Name the Japanese warlord who attempted to unify Japan prior to the successful Tokugawa coup of the late 16th century.

Answer: Nobunaga

Oda Nobunaga instigated the Heike War in an attempt to conquer Japan during the latter Sengoku period. He died in 1582, unsuccessful...but he paved the way for the Tokugawa clan to take control and assert themselves as the new shoguns. Thank you for having tried this quiz.
