Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This former AC-DC frontman died by choking on his vomit in the back of a car in 1980. What was his name?

Answer: Bon Scott

Bon Scott died just after his band's largest success, namely 1979's Highway to Hell album. He was replaced and the embattled band band continues to wow audiences even today.
2. This Russian Tzar emancipated the Serfs in 1861, but despite that he was assasinated as a result of civil unrest his oppresive handling of peasant revolts caused. This assasination caused his successor to lead a massive purge of the Jews, who had little to do with the assasination.

Answer: Alexander II

Alexander II's assasination drove Alexander III to wildly unpopular oppresive programs at home, including purges against the Jews. 'I'll Convert a third, kill a third and drive the rest out' he once said.
3. Katherine Howard was Henry VIII's fifth wife, and she was executed in 1542 for adultery. This woman was her confidant and probably the only woman in history ever executed for keeping her mouth shut.

Answer: Jane Rochford

The Katherine Howard debacle really destroyed Henry VIII. He had everyone even remotely involved executed, even a paramour from her past. Jane Rochford's only sin in the matter was not telling the king about Katherine's infidelity.
4. How did Austrian pop singer Falco depart this planet back in 1998?

Answer: Bus flattened his SUV

Falco ended a career spanning nearly two decades behind when his SUV veered into the path of a Bus in the Dominican Republic back in 1998. He was best known for the song Rock Me Amadeus, but had numerous hit singles and albums in German speaking territories.
5. We all know Sid and Nancy, but does anyone remember who played the doomed punk in the movie?

Answer: Gary Oldman

Sid Vicious died a sad and lonely death from a Heroin overdose at the young age of 21. This, of course, was only a few months after he murdered Nancy, the young woman he had had a very stormy relationship with.
6. This original Maytag Repairman is dead. Now, do any of you actually remember the name of this two bit never was?

Answer: Jesse White

Jesse White was the original Maytag Repairman, deservedly the loneliest man in town. I had the misfortune of running into him once, a highly disagreeable man. Former WKRP in Cincinatti boss Gordon Jump has succeeded Mr. White to the role.
7. What method of death do Sonny Bono and Michael Kennedy have in common?

Answer: Skiing into a tree

For about two months skiing was a striking cause of celebrity deaths.
8. Who was set to hang in the Elvis Costello song 'Let Him Dangle'?

Answer: Derek Bently

Derek Bently was the one tried because he gave young Chris Craig the order to shoot. This song was based on a real life case. I don't know what the result was, but it made for a potent anti death penalty song.
9. Which of the following people did NOT die of cancer?

Answer: Marc Bolan

Marc Bolan was killed in an auto accident in 1977. The others were cancer victims between 1957 and 2000. Cancer is still a leading cause of death in the world.
10. What type of death is R. Budd Dwyer famous for?

Answer: Suicide at press conference

R. Budd Dwyer was a mid level Pennsylvania elected official who was indicted for bribe-taking and other crimes. He promptly called a press conference and blew the back of his head off on camera in time for the 11 o'clock news.
