Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Find the match for Cain. (Genesis 4:17)

Answer: Enoch

Enoch was the son of Cain and is the first grandchild in the Bible. On top of this, Enoch has the distinction of having the world's first city named after him. Genesis 4:17, in the NKJV, states: "And Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. And he built a city, and called the name of the city after the name of his son -- Enoch." According to Genesis 4:18, Enoch was the father of Irad who was the father of Mehujael.
2. Find the match for Adam. (Genesis 4:2)

Answer: Abel

Adam, according to Scripture, was the father of Cain, Abel and Seth as well as a number of other unnamed sons and daughters. Genesis 4:2 states Abel was a keeper of sheep while his older brother Cain was a tiller of the ground.

Genesis 4:8 states Cain killed Abel during a fit of jealousy as Abel's offerings to the LORD were more pleasing then his. After the killing, Cain was exiled to the land of Nod, east of Eden, as per Genesis 4:16.
3. Find the match for Haran. (Genesis 11:27)

Answer: Lot

According to Genesis 11:27, Haran was the father of Lot. Haran's father was Terah, who was also the father of Abram and Nahor, as per Genesis 11:26. In other words, Lot was Abram's nephew. Later, Abram would become known as Abraham.

One of the better known stories in the Old Testament involves Lot's unnamed wife being turned into a pillar of salt because she defied divine instructions and looked back on the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, was per Genesis 19:26.
4. Find the match for Jacob. (Genesis 30:11)

Answer: Gad

Jacob was the father of twelve sons, including Gad, according to Scripture. In addition to Gad, the names of the sons were Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Dan, Naphtali, Asher, Issachar, Zebulun, Joseph, and Benjamin. Jacob also had one daughter, Dinah.

The mothers of Jacob's children were Leah, Rachel, Bilhah and Zilpah. Leah and Rachel were his wives and Zilpah was Leah's handmaiden while Bilhah was Rachel's handmaiden. Gad's mother was Zilpah, as per Genesis 35:26.
5. Find the match for Abraham. (Genesis 25:1-2)

Answer: Jokshan

Bit of a trick question here. Abraham and his wife Sarah are well known as the parents of Isaac. However, according to Genesis 25:1-2, Abraham had a second wife, presumably after Sarah's death. The name of the second wife was Keturah and she bore Abraham six soms -- Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah.

Jokshan was the second oldest, but little is known about him as he is mentioned in passing reference. In fact, his name appears in only Genesis 25:2-3 and 1 Chronicles 1:32, verses listing the names of the children of Abraham and Keturah.

According to Genesis 25:3, Jokshan was the father of Sheba and Dedan.
6. Find the match for Judah. (Genesis 38:29-30)

Answer: Perez and Zerah

Judah impregnated his daughter-in-law Tamar, who gave birth to Perez and Zerah, the second set of documented twins in Scripture. The first set of twins was Jacob and Esau.

It's a bit of a long story, but Tamar tricked Judah into impregnating her when she posed as a prostitute along the side of a road, according to Geneses 38:13-20. Amazingly, Judah did not realize he had sexual intercourse with his daughter-in-law as her face was covered.

Genesis 38:27-30 in the NKJV gives this account of the births of Perez and Zerah: "Now it came to pass, at the time for giving birth, that behold, twins were in her womb. And so it was, when she was giving birth, that the one put out his hand; and the midwife took a scarlet thread and bound it on his hand, saying, 'This one came out first.' Then it happened, as he drew back his hand, that his brother came out unexpectedly; and she said, 'How did you break through? This breach be upon you!' Therefore his name was called Perez. Afterward his brother came out who had the scarlet thread on his hand. And his name was called Zerah."

According to Genesis 38:2-5, Judah and his wife Shua were the parents of three boys -- Er, Onan and Shelah.
7. Find the match for Reuben. (Genesis 46:9)

Answer: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron & Carmi

According to Genesis 46:9, Reuben was the father of four sons -- Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi. Their names are included in an account of the members of Jacob's family who left Canaan to live in Egypt where Joseph had ascended to become the second most powerful man in the land.

According to Genesis 46:27, "all the persons of the house of Jacob who went to Egypt were seventy."
8. Find the match for Benjamin (Genesis 46:21)

Answer: Belah

Benjamin, the youngest son of Jacob, was the father of ten sons, according to Scripture. Genesis 46:21 states their names were Belah, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard.

Benjamin's mother was Rachel who died giving him birth. According to Genesis 35:18, she named the baby Ben-Oni just before she died. However, Jacob changed the child's name to Benjamin.

Benjamin had an older brother, Joseph.
9. Find the match for Ishmael. (Genesis 25:13)

Answer: Abdeel

Ishmael, according to Scripture, was the father of twelve sons, including Abdeel. Abraham and Hagar were Ishmael's parents. He is generally regarded as the father of the Arab nation.

Genesis 25:12-18 in the NKJV states: "Now this is the genealogy of Ishmael, Abraham's son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah's maidservant, bore to Abraham. And these were the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their generations: The firstborn of Ishmael, Nebajoth; then Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Hadar, Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah. These were the sons of Ishmael and these were their names, by their towns and their settlements, twelve princes according to their nations. These were the years of the life of Ishmael: one hundred and thirty-seven years; and he breathed his last and died, and was gathered to his people. (They dwelt from Havilah as far as Shur, which is east of Egypt as you go toward Assyria.) He died in the presence of all his brethren."
10. Find the match for Joseph. (Genesis 41:51)

Answer: Manasseh

Joseph and his wife Asenath were the the parents of two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim.

Genesis 41:50-52 gives tis account in the NKJV: "And to Joseph were born two sons before the years of famine came, whom Asenath, the daughter of Poti-Pherah priest of On, bore to him. Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: 'For God has made me forget all my toil and all my father's house.' And the name of the second he called Ephraim: 'For God has caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction'."
