Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. According to I John 4:8 who or what is the source of love?

Answer: God

According to I John 4:8 love is an attribute of God because God is love. Verses 9-11 say that God's love was manifested towards mankind when he sent His only Son to die for fallen man. Christians are admonished that if God loves humans so much they should also love each other.
2. The Bible teaches that romantic love casts out fear.

Answer: False

I John 4:15 says that perfect love casts out fear. John declares that there is no fear in love because fear has torment. He goes on to say that the person that fears is not made perfect in love. Interesting thought.
3. What does the Bible say about an individual who says he loves God but hates his brother?

Answer: He is a liar.

I John 4:20 teaches that if a man says that he loves God and hates his brother he is a liar and the truth is not in him. If believers cannot love their brother -fellowmen- who they can see it will be impossible for them to love God who they have not seen. Verse 21 states that the commandment believers have from God is that he who loves God loves his brother too.
4. Complete this quote from John 13:35: "By this shall all men know you are my ___ if you love one another." (KJV)

Answer: disciples

Love is a test of discipleship. Jesus knew that he was soon to leave His disciples. After telling them of His soon departure He commanded them to love each other. This would be the sign by which it would be known that that they were His disciples.
5. Alison was a Christian but when Rob destroyed her portfolio he became her enemy and she wanted to see him suffer. Which instruction from Jesus was she forgetting?

Answer: Love your enemies.

In His discourse on the mountain Jesus told the multitude that it was said that they should love their neighbour and hate their enemies. However, he wanted them to love their enemies and bless those who cursed them. They should pray for those who abused and persecuted them. The message is the same for Christians in modern times. (Matt.5:43-45)
6. Some folks say love is a feeling that you feel when you feel a feeling you never felt before. Which biblical statement is sometimes used to define love?

Answer: It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

I Cor. 13:7 gives this definition of love. In Hebrews 11:1 faith is defined as the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Matthew 7:24-27 relates the parable of the wise man who built his house upon the rock while the foolish man built his on the sand.

This parable is not about love. The woman clothed with the sun is mentioned in Revelation 12:1 and is a symbol of God's church.
7. There are many words or phrases which can describe love. Which of these is NOT one of them listed in I Corinthians 13?

Answer: envious

I Corinthians 13 is called the love chapter. According to this chapter, love is a very important virtue. Verse 4 has this to say about love:
"Charity suffereth long and is kind; charity envieth long, charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up. Verse 6 reminds us that it rejoices in the truth. Love according to this chapter never fails. Makes me wonder why marriages fail.
8. Which set of persons did Paul admonish husbands to love in Ephesians 5:25?

Answer: He admonishes husbands to love their wives.

In speaking to the Ephesians, Paul admonished husbands to love their wives even as Christ loved the church and gave His life for it. He also told them to love their wives as their own bodies because he that loves his wife loves himself. He also said that women should reverence/respect their husbands. Eph. 5:25-33
9. According to I John 3:18 is very important for Christians to love in word and tongue.

Answer: False

John teaches that those who are blessed materially and see the needy and do not have compassion on them the love of God is not in them. He goes on to say that Christians should not love in word and tongue but in deed and in truth. This is how persons will know that they are of the truth.
10. All you need is love. What does Colossians 3:14 say love is?

Answer: the bond of perfectness

Paul wrote to the Colossians encouraging them to put on as the elect of God, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness and longsuffering. He also encouraged them to forbear with and forgive each other. However, above all those things they were to put on love which is the bond of perfectness. (Colossians 3:12-14)
