Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. According to the Gospel of Matthew, the three wise men who visited baby Jesus were warned in a dream they should not return to see a particular leader and as a result, "they departed for their own country another way." Who was the leader the wise men were told not to see a second time?

Answer: Herod

Herod is the correct answer. Matthew 2:1-12 tells of the three wise men travelling from the east to worship the baby Jesus. However, when the wise men arrived in Israel, Herod told them he wanted them to inform him of Jesus' whereabouts so "that I may come and worship Him also." It was all a ruse, of course. The only reason Herod wanted to know the whereabouts of the baby Jesus is that he wanted to kill Him.

Later, when the wise men found the baby Jesus and worshipped Him, Scripture states in the NKJV they were warned in a dream that they should not return to Herod and "they departed for their own country another way."
2. Luke 7:19 tells of two disciples of a man asking Jesus in the NKJV if He was "the Coming One, or do we look for another?" What man did the two disciples represent?

Answer: John the Baptist

The two disciples who asked Jesus if He was "the Coming One or do we look for another?", represented John the Baptist. No names are given for the two disciples who asked the question in Luke 7:19.

In response, Jesus told the two men in the NKJV: "Go and tell John the things you have seen and heard: that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have the gospel preached to them. And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me."
3. After Jesus healed a man with a withered hand, Luke 6 in the NKJV states the Pharisees were outraged and "discussed with one another what they might do to Jesus." Why were the Pharisees outraged?

Answer: Jesus healed the man on the Sabbath

The Pharisees were outraged after Jesus healed the man with a withered hand on the Sabbath. Luke 6:11 in the NKJV states the Pharisees "were filled with rage, and discussed with one another what they might do to Jesus." Just prior to healing the unnamed man, Jesus, perceived the thoughts of the Pharisees, and asked them a question: "Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy?" Christ then proceeded to heal the man.

It was when the man with a withered hand was healed that the Pharisees discussed with one another what they might do to Jesus.
4. The following quote containing the word 'another' is from John 13:34 in the NKJV: "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another." Who made the statement?

Answer: Jesus

The commandment that we should love one another was made by Jesus to the original Twelve Disciples. Just after making the statement, Jesus accurately predicted Peter would deny knowing Him three times, followed by a rooster crowing. For details, see John 13:31-38.
5. The Gospel of John tells of Jesus washing the feet of the original Twelve Disciples and then proclaiming in the NKJV, "If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet." At what event did Jesus wash the disciples' feet?

Answer: Last Supper

Jesus washed the feet of the original Twelve Disciples at the Last Supper. In John 13:14 in the NKJV, Jesus is quoted as saying, "If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet."

Later that evening, Jesus would be betrayed by Judas Iscariot, one of His disciples, and arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane. He would be humiliated, tortured and crucified only to rise from the dead three days later.

For details about the washing of the feet, see John 13:1-16.
6. According to Acts 15:39, Paul became involved in an argument with Barnabas over the value of taking a particular church worker with them on a missionary journey. The verse in the NKJV states, when "the contention became so sharp... they parted from one another." Who was the church worker Paul and Barnabas were arguing over?

Answer: John Mark

Acts 15:36-40 in the NKJV tells of Paul and Barnabas having an argument over the merits of taking John Mark with them on a missionary trip and when the "contention became so sharp... they parted from one another."

According to the passage, Barnabas wanted to take John Mark on the missionary journey but Paul was opposed, pointing out he had been abandoned by John Mark on a previous trip. As a result, Paul and Barnabas parted from one another with Barnabas taking John Mark with him and visiting Cyprus. Meanwhile, Paul chose Silas to accompany him on the missionary trip to Syria and Cilicia.
7. Acts 12 tells of a worker in the early church miraculously escaping from prison and appearing to a group of Christians who had been praying for him at the house of Mary, the mother of John Mark. A few moments later, the church worker "departed and went to another place." What was the name of the man who escaped from prison?

Answer: Peter

Peter is the correct answer. Acts 12:5-18 tells of Peter being miraculously freed from prison by an angel and then making his way to the house of Mary, the mother of John Mark. According to the passage, a group of Christians were at Mary's house fervently praying for Peter's safety.

After giving the people an update, Acts 12:17 in the NKJV states Peter "departed and went to another place."
8. Using the NKJV, here's a verse containing the word 'another': "And above all things have fervent love for one another, for 'love will cover a multitude of sins.'" What member of the original Twelve Disciples penned the verse?

Answer: Peter

The statement pertaining to love covering a multitude of sins is from 1 Peter 4:8. The book was written by Peter, one of the original Twelve Disciples. The verse is part of a passage telling of serving for God's glory.

(Rather than use 'love' in the verse, the KJV uses the word 'charity'.)

To put the verse in context, here's how 1 Peter 4:7-10 reads in the NKJV:
"But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers. And above all things have fervent love for one another, for 'love will cover a multitude of sins.' Be hospitable to one another without grumbling. As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God."
9. The following verse containing the word 'another' is from the NKJV: "And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment." In what New Testament book do we find the verse?

Answer: 1 John

The verse is from 1 John 3:23 and is part of a passage pertaining to the outworking of love. 1 John was written by John, one of the original Twelve Disciples. Using Bible versions such as the KJKV, NKJV and NIV, the book is followed by 2 John and 3 John, two other books written by John.
10. Here's yet another verse from the NKJV containing the word 'another': "Then I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvelous: seven angels having the seven last plagues, for in them the wrath of God is complete." In what New Testament book do you find this verse?

Answer: Revelation

The verse is found in Revelation 15:1, the last book of the Christian Bible. The verse is part of a lengthy passage pertaining to the 'bowl judgments'. In his vision, John the writer of Revelation, tells of seeing seven angels with seven bowls filled with plagues. Details about the seven horrific plagues can be found in Revelation 16.
