Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Both Jesus and John had their births foretold by whom?

Luke 1:5-38. This is related to one of my past tests. Elizabeth was chosen to give birth to John after Gabriel told Zacharias. Then, Gabriel visited Mary and told her she was chosen to give birth to Jesus.
2. How are John the Baptist and Jesus related?

Answer: second cousins

No specific verse. It is told that Mary and Elizabeth were cousins. So it is accurately correct that Jesus and John were therefore second cousins.
3. Out of Jesus and John, John preached first.

Answer: True

Matthew 3:1-3. John was preaching and baptizing people in a sea. That sea became known as Aenon.
4. An amazing thing happened after John baptized Jesus; the Spirit of God came upon Jesus. The Spirit of God came upon him in the likeness of what animal?

Answer: a dove

Matthew 3:16. John thought that he wasn't worthy of baptizing Jesus. John thought the Jesus should baptize him instead. Jesus still let John baptize him.
5. Why was John the Baptist beheaded?

Answer: Salome asked for John's head during a party King Herod hosted

Matthew 14:3-11 and Mark 6:16-28. At first, King Herod didn't want to kill John because he was afraid of disappointing his royal subjects. Herodias convinced King Herod to put him in jail. Herodias wanted to slay John, but she couldn't do it. At King Herod's birthday party, Salome danced for him and his guests.

Herod told her that he would give her anything she asked of him, even up to the half of his kingdom. Salome asked for John's head on a silver platter. Herod sent an executioner to go into the prison and cut off John's head.

Herod gave it to Salome, then Salome gave it to her mother, Herodias. John's disciples would later take John's remains and put them in a tomb.
6. What was Jesus's first miracle?

Answer: He turned water into wine

John 2:1-11. Jesus was at a wedding in Cana. Mary, his mother, told his disciples to do as Jesus said. At the wedding reception, there was no wine left. Then Jesus called for six water pots and to fill them with water. When the organizer of the wedding tasted it, it became wine.
7. Jesus handpicked twelve disciples. Which of these was not one of the twelve he originally handpicked?

Answer: Andronicus

Luke 6:12-16. Jesus handpicked these men: Simon Peter, his brother Andrew, James, his brother John sons of Zebedee, Phillip and Bartholomew, Thomas (Didymus), Matthew (Levi), James son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas Iscariot, who would later betray him. Andronicus was another Apostle mentioned in the book of Romans by Paul.
8. Which gospel did not tell of Peter's Denial in the same chapter Jesus predicted it?

Answer: John

Jesus predicted that Peter would deny knowing him three times before a rooster crowed in John 13:38. It didn't happen until four chapters later John 18:13-27.
9. Soon before Jesus's trial, what miracle did he perform?

Answer: He put Malchus's ear back on him.

Luke 22:50-51. Jesus and his disciples were with him in the Garden of Gethsemane. When Judas kissed him and the disciples awoke, a brawl started between the disciples and Roman soldiers. Peter drew a sword and cut off Malchus's ear. Them Jesus grabbed it and put it back on him.
10. What were Jesus's last words on the cross?

Answer: It differs among the gospels

Luke 23:46 says that he said, "Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit".
John 19:30 says that he said, "It is finished".
