Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which book of the Bible did God send venomous snakes among the Israelites?

Answer: Numbers

While wandering in the desert, the Israelites spoke out against God and Moses, complaining about the lack of food and water. "Then the Lord sent venomous snakes among them; they bit the people and many of them died." - Numbers 21:6 (NIV)

Question by Donna39.
2. The Canaanites are descended from whom?

Answer: Ham, son of Noah

Isaac was the father of Jacob, whose name was changed to Israel, and Israel's descendants are the Israelites (Genesis 32:28). Esau was also called Edom, and his descendants are the Edomites (Genesis 25:30). When Enoch was born, Cain built a city and named it after him (Genesis 4:17).

Question by J-Zilch.
3. In Psalm 1, what are people encouraged to do, day and night, concerning the law of the Lord (New International Version/King James Version)?

Answer: Meditate

Psalm 1:2 reads, "But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night" (NIV).

4. In Jeremiah 17:7-8 (NIV), to what is the person who trusts in the Lord likened?

Answer: A tree planted by water

A tree planted by water has, of course, a constant supply of water and will therefore not dry up or wither or die. The person who trusts in the Lord is someone who constantly looks to God as their source of life. The passage says that they therefore will be able to stand strong no matter what happens around them.

The full quote is: "But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit."

Question by PeggyLouisa.
5. What is the name of the blind beggar from Jericho who had his sight restored by Jesus? (Mark 10:46 -- NIV)

Answer: Bartimaeus

The NIV states in Verse 52 that "immediately" Bartimaeus had his sight restored after he approached Jesus. Bartimaeus was told by Jesus that his faith was the reason his sight was restored.

6. When Jesus called upon Peter and his brother Andrew to be his disciples, what did Jesus specifically say they would become? (Matthew 4:19 -- NIV)

Answer: Fishers of men

Matthew 4:18 states that the two brothers were casting their nets for fish in the Sea of Galilee. Verse 20 states that "at once" they left their nets and followed him.

7. In the book of James, in the King James Version of the Bible, readers are instructed to do something about Satan. In James 4:7, we see two statements that are very interconnected. The first one tell believers that they are to SUBMIT ourselves to God, and then must do something to the devil so that he will flee from them. What are believers instructed to do to the devil, after submitting themselves to God?

Answer: Resist

Readers are told in James 4:7 to resist the devil. First, however, one must meet the criteria presented. The start is to absolutely submit to God. Without this, James says, ordinary people do not have the power to overcome the devil's temptations nor his purposes.
Only a foolhardy person would dare to rebuke the devil, since his power is much greater than theirs, even though it is much less than God's.
Even Michael, one of the archangels of heaven, did not dare rebuke him, but instead (in Jude verse 9) said, "The Lord rebuke thee."
The admonition here is to submit to God, THEN to resist the devil.

8. Which city had the inscription "To the Unknown God"? (Acts 17:21-23 KJV)

Answer: Athens

Acts 17:21-23 states that, in Paul's sermon on Ares' Hill, Paul told the Athenians that they were too superstitious because they had that inscription. Paul proceeded to tell them about Jesus, and some of them believed him.

9. In the parable of the Wicked Servant, a rich man was going away and left a sum of money with each of his ten servants. How much did he leave with each of them, according to Luke 19:12-27 in the King James Version?

Answer: Ten pounds

Verse 13 reads: "And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come."
The margin says the Greek word was "mina" and was equal to about 50 shekels, which was a large sum in those days.

Question by Birdman.
10. Okay, I never do a straightforward question, so here's a real treat. Name the two people mentioned in the Bible who have never died.

Answer: Enoch and Elijah

In the King James Version of the Bible, in Genesis 5:24, it says, "And ENOCH walked with God: and he was not; for God took him."
2 Kings 2:11 states, "And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and ELIJAH went up by a whirlwind into heaven."
(This is a part of the account of Elijah and Elisha as they took their last walk together.)
Most Christians interpret these two accounts to mean that neither Enoch nor Elijah experienced death as we know it.
