Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A song led by Moses starts this way in the NKJV: "I will sing to the LORD for He has triumphed gloriously! The horse and its rider He has thrown into the sea!" In what book do you find such a song?

Answer: Exodus

Exodus is the correct answer. I find it highly amusing that Moses describes himself in Exodus 4:10 in the NKJV as being "slow of speech and slow of tongue", however, when it came to singing this particular song, he was front and center in leading the Israelites.

The song was performed by the Israelites after God miraculously parted the Red Sea, enabling them to flee from Egypt with the Pharaoh's army in hot pursuit. According to Scripture, the water ceased to be parted when the soldiers were part way across the Red Sea and they all drowned along with their horses.

In the NKJV, the song is titled the 'Song of Moses'. (See Exodus 15:1-20.) Scripture also tells of Moses' sister Miriam taking a timbrel and leading the Israelite women in song as well.

2. Who fought and killed a bear and a lion in his youth, according to 1 Samuel 17:34-35?

Answer: David

This is mentioned in 1 Samuel 17:34-35 when David is explaining to King Saul why he should be able to go kill Goliath. David said he killed bears and lions who tried to steal lambs on his watch. David did kill Goliath and later when he was older he became the king of Israel.

3. A man in the Bible is recorded as having lost 3,000 camels in one day! How did Job lose so many at that time, according to Job 1:17?

Answer: Thieves stole them

The ancient Chaldeans were responsible for stealing Job's camels. Other calamities befell him on the same day, even though he was a very Godly man. His example is for us to understand the importance of standing with God through the bad times, as well as the good, since God is ultimately in charge of everything that can befall us or be for our benefit.
This book of the Bible is often thought by scholars to have been the very 1st book of the Bible to have made it into written form.
To see more of this story, you might like to read Job, chapters 1 and 2, at the very least.

4. Judges 15:4-5 in the NKJV tells of Samson attaching torches to the tails of a species of animal to burn the grainfields of the Philistines. What type of animal did Samson attach torches to?

Answer: Foxes

Samson, a flamboyant judge of Israel, captured three hundred foxes and after attaching torches to their tails, set them loose in the grainfields of the Philistines. According to Scripture, not only were grainfields consumed by fire, but also vineyards and olive groves.

Details can be found in Judges 15.

5. According to Proverbs 6:7-8, what animal stores its provisions in the summer and gathers its food in the harvest even though it has no commander, overseer or ruler?

Answer: Ant

The verses urge those who are lazy and don't want to work to take the ant as an example. These little critters are so small and so wise to know that if they don't work and prepare they won't have anything to eat when they need it.

(By the way, did you know the ant can lift up to 5000 times its own body weight?)

6. According to Psalm 63:10 in the NIV, what animal does David say his enemies will be food for?

Answer: Jackals

In the King James Version it says foxes, although in the NIV Bible it states jackals. David was praising God in this psalm despite being chased by King Saul who wanted to kill him.
The Bible says that Jesus Christ came through the lineage of King David.

7. An old prophet in Bethel was killed by a lion, but neither his donkey nor even he were actually eaten by the lion. The lion, the donkey and the dead prophet were all found standing together later. The prophet had disobeyed the word of the Lord and the lion killed him. In which Old Testament book is this story found?

Answer: 1 Kings 13

This story as found in 1 Kings 13 essentially shows how disobedience can cost an individual; in this case, it cost the man's life.
He was deceived by another man into disobeying God's Word and as a result he was mauled and killed by a lion. The donkey upon which he had been riding was unharmed and the prophet's dead body was found nearby with the lion still present.
This seems to indicate that the lion wasn't hungry; but was merely a tool that God may have used to punish the disobedience of the prophet.

Read the account as found in the book of 1 Kings 13 for a little more in-depth viewpoint if you would like.

8. A New Testament parable tells of a man being so poor and helpless dogs would come and lick his sores. According to Luke 16:20, what was the name of the beggar?

Answer: Lazarus

Lazarus is featured prominently in a parable told by Jesus in Luke 16:19-31. According to the passage, Lazarus, who lived near the house of an unnamed rich man, was so poor and helpless the dogs would come to lick his sores. And while this was taking place, the rich man was clothed in the finest of clothes and feasted everyday.

In the parable, Lazarus and the rich man both die, with Lazarus ending up by the side of Abraham and the rich man in a place of torment.

9. Judges 14:9 tells us how Samson broke one of the Nazarite vows when he came in contact with a dead body. What animal did he come in contact with that was dead, and what food did he get from the carcass?

Answer: lion, honey

The vows of the Nazarite, as found in Numbers 6:1-21, is a set of vows that separated the people who were Nazarites for the Lord's work. There were three rules:
1. Do not eat or drink from the vine
2. Do not cut your hair
3. Do not come in contact (or do not touch) with a dead body.

Over time Samson broke all three of these.

The other two Nazarites mentioned in the Bible are Samuel, in the two books of Samuel, and John the Baptist, who is found in the Gospels.

Answer: dogs

Dogs, representing a type of undesirable person, are to be found among those not allowed entry into the city of New Jerusalem. Also mentioned are those designated as liars, murderers, those who practice sorcery or witchcraft and the sexually immoral.
