Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Find the match for the man who was not allowed to enter the Promised Land. (Numbers 20:7-12)

Answer: Moses

Moses and his brother Aaron were prohibited from entering the Promised Land. Numbers 20:12 states the LORD was angry because the two men did not follow His express orders and as a result they were not allowed to lead the Israelites into Canaan. According to Scripture, Moses and Aaron made a serious error at Kadesh when the children of Israel were complaining about no water to drink. See Numbers 20:1-13 for details.
2. Find the match for the woman who was struck with leprosy and then later cleansed. (Numbers 12:10)

Answer: Miriam

Miriam was afflicted with leprosy, but ended up being cured and re-instated into the Israelite camp. According to the KJV and the NKJV, the grumbling about her brother Moses' selection of an Ethiopian woman as his wife caused serious problems for Miriam. (The NIV uses the word 'Cushite', rather than Ethiopian.)

Numbers 12:5 tells of Miriam and Aaron stepping forward and the LORD coming down in a pillar of cloud. When the pillar of the cloud had disappeared, Aaron noticed his sister Miriam was leprous and "as white as snow". After Moses pleaded to God to cure Miriam of her leprosy, she was cleansed and reinstated into the Israelite camp after a seven-day absence.
3. Find the match for the man who was stoned and burned for his thievery. (Joshua 7:24-25)

Answer: Achan

The correct answer is Achan. According to the seventh chapter of Joshua, after Achan stole a large amount of booty in the capture of Jericho, the LORD turned against the Israelites and they were defeated in battle at Ai. Achan and members of his family ended up being stoned and burned, Scripture states.

It's one of those long stories, but the Israelites invaded Jericho and were attempting to conquer Ai as it had been allocated to them as 'The Promised Land.'

Joshua 7:21 tells of Achan making his confession of guilt to Joshua. Some of the items he stole included a "beautiful" Babylonian garment, two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold weighing fifty shekels.

After Achan made his confession, his fate was sealed. Joshua 7:22-26 tells of the stolen items being recovered from Achan's tent and then he and members of his family were stoned.

The website Christiananswers.net reports Achan means "one who troubles."
4. Find the match for the man who was hanged on the gallows he built to execute Mordecai. (Esther 7:10)

Answer: Haman

Haman is the correct answer. According to Scripture, Haman followed the advice of his wife Zeresh and constructed massive gallows to hang Mordecai. Esther 5:14-15 states the gallows were fifty cubits high, the equivalent of about 75 feet or about 23 meters.

It is believed Zeresh wanted the gallows extra high so Mordecai's demise could be seen from a considerable distance. In other words, the gallows would be about as high as a seven story building, making it visible from all parts of the city where Haman and Mordecai lived.

The plan backfired with Esther 7 telling of Haman being hanged on the very gallows he had constructed for the execution of Mordecai. Esther 9 goes on to state Haman's ten sons were hanged as well.

According to Scripture, Haman had a diabolical scheme to kill all the Jews in Persia.
5. Find the match for the man who was devoured by fire. (Leviticus 10:1-2)

Answer: Abihu

Abihu and his brother Nadab were both consumed by fire from the presence of the LORD because of their unholy worship practice. Details can be found in Leviticus 10:1-2. They were both priests and the sons of Aaron. According to Numbers 3:4, Abihu and Nadab were replaced as priests by their brothers Eleazar and Ithamar.
6. Find the match for the man who was struck with leprosy. (2 Kings 5:20-27)

Answer: Gehazi

Yes, Gehazi is the correct answer. It's a long story, but after Naaman was cured of leprosy he offered Elisha a reward which the prophet declined. Scripture reports Gehazi caught up with Naaman after his departure and asked to receive a talent of silver and two sets of clothing. Naaman promptly responded to Gehazi's request, giving him two talents of silver and two sets of clothing.

Later, Gehazi would deny his actions to Elisha and after he left the prophet's presence, Scripture reports he was leprous, as white as snow. The account of Gehazi being afflicted with leprosy is found in 2 Kings 5:20-27.
7. Find the match for those who were put to death by the sword. (Jeremiah 11:21-23)

Answer: Men of Anathoth

The men of Anathoth were put to death by the sword, as per Jeremiah 11:21-23. According to Scripture, they insisted that Jeremiah not prophesy in the name of the LORD. According to Wikipedia, Anathoth was a Levitical city given to the children of Aaron.
8. Find the match for the woman who was struck dead by God. (Acts 5:1-11)

Answer: Sapphira

Sapphira and her husband Ananias were stuck dead after selling their property and withholding part of the money from going to the Lord's work, as per Acts 5:1-11.

According to scripture, they were struck dead after they met separately with Peter and both claimed they had turned over the entire proceeds from the sale of their property.
9. Find the match for the leader who was struck down by an angel of God and devoured by worms before he died. (Acts 12:21-23)

Answer: Herod

Herod is the correct answer. According to Acts 12:21-23, Herod was struck down by an angel after he gave a speech and people claimed they had heard "the voice of a god and not of a man" and he did not give glory to God. The verses conclude by stating he was eaten by worms and died.

Herod was a ruthless opponent of the early church and his death was seen as divine retribution.
10. Find the match for the man who was rendered unable to talk when he disputed the claim of an angel. (Luke 1:18-20)

Answer: Zecharias

Luke 1:11-25 tells of the angel Gabriel appearing before Zecharias and telling him of the upcoming birth of their son, who would become John the Baptist. (In the NIV, Zecharias is called Zechariah.) When Zecharias doubted Gabriel's claims, he was rendered speechless as per Luke 1:20. After the baby was born, Zechariah wrote on a tablet that the infant was to be called John and, according toLuke 1:64, "immediately his was loosed and he began to speak, praising God."

Scripture states Zecharias was a priest who belonged to the priestly division of Abijah and his wife was also a descendant of Aaron, as per Luke 1:5.
