Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which valley does the prophet Hosea indicate where God says He will "break the bow of Israel"?

Answer: Jezreel

Hosea's wife, Gomer, bears a son named Jezreel. Jezreel was then dedicated to bring vengeance on the family of Jehu in the valley that became named for him. (Hosea 1:1-5)
2. What happened to Moses's brother, Aaron, when he went up on Mount Hor?

Answer: he died

Aaron had served as high priest to the wandering Israelites who were waiting to enter the Promised Land. However, Jehovah allowed none of the original Israelites who were alive at the time of the Exodus to enter, even Moses. Aaron was 123 years old at his death (Numbers 33:37-39).

He is never mentioned as being a leper, although both Moses and their sister, Miriam, had both temporarily contracted leprosy (Moses in Exodus 4:6-7; Miriam in Numbers 12:10-15).
3. What notorious woman of the Bible lived in the Valley of Sorek?

Answer: Delilah

Delilah was a girlfiend of Judge Samson. The Philistines, who bore no great affection for Samson after he had played cruel tricks on them, used Delilah to find out the source of Samson's seemingly superhuman strength. Judges 16.
4. Elijah the prophet upstaged the priests of Baal on what mountain?

Answer: Mount Carmel

Elijah had a showdown on Mount Carmel with the priests of Baal to demonstrate who was the true, living god. All day Baal's priests cried, pleaded, leaped about and cut themselves in an attempt to make Baal's presence manifest itself, to no avail. However, Elijah spoke but a few words and fire came from the sky and consumed his drenched offering (1 Kings 18: 21-38).
5. What notable event happened in the Valley of Ajalon?

Answer: Joshua made the sun and moon stand still

Joshua was defending Gibeon against attack by five kings. He was winning the battle as the day waned. Fearing the enemy would use darkness to escape, Joshua prayed for the sun to stand still so he could continue the rout (Joshua 10:12-13).
6. Mount Gilboa was the location of the death of what Biblical king?

Answer: Saul

In a heated battle with the Philistines, the Israelites were defeated and fled to Mount Gilboa where Saul's sons were slain. Saul was also badly wounded. To keep himself from falling alive into the Philistine's cruel hands, he fell on his sword and killed himself when his armor bearer refused to do it (1 Samuel 31:1-4).
7. The prophet Joel indicated that wine, milk and water would flow in which valley?

Answer: Shittim

This prophet foretold bad days for the enemies of Israel but abundance for the Israelites, symbolized by the flowing liquids (Joel 3:18-19). Shittim Valley was about 10 miles northeast of the Dead Sea.
8. Where did Abraham take Isaac to sacrifice him?

Answer: Mount Moriah

Abraham was shocked and grieved that Jehovah asked him to make a burnt offering of his son, Isaac. However, God stopped Abraham just in time and provided a ram for the sacrifice (Genesis 22:1-13). Biblical scholars believe that Mount Moriah eventually became the site of Jerusalem.
9. What king of Judah was slain in the Valley of Megiddo?

Answer: Josiah

So as not to be a target for the enemy, King Josiah went into battle disguised. He could not escape his fate when arrows mortally wounded him (2 Chronicles 35:22-24). Megiddo has an even more notable distinction; in the Hebrew language it is known as Har Megiddo, but in English - Armageddon!
10. What mountain is associated with Israel's only female judge, Deborah?

Answer: Mount Tabor

Deborah told General Barak to muster his troops at Mount Tabor and God would make him victorious in battle against the Canaanite general, Sisera. When Sisera saw he was losing the battle, he fled and was met by a woman, Jael, who invited him to her tent to eat and rest.

However, after Sisera fell asleep, Jael killed him by pounding a tent peg into his head (Judges 4:5-7, 18-21). Biblical scholars also consider Mount Tabor as the site of Jesus' Transfiguration.
