Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. According to Numbers 23:13-14, from what mountain did Balaam plan to curse the Israelites?

Answer: Mount Pisgah

Mount Pisgah is the correct answer. According to Numbers 22:13-14, Balaam built seven altars at the top of Mount Pisgah and offered a bull and a ram on each altar. Details about Balaam building the seven altars on top of Mount Pisgah appear in Scripture shortly after an account about a donkey speaking to him. See Numbers 22:22-40 for details about the talking donkey.

According to Wikipedia, Pisgah in Hebrew means `summit` or `peak`. In some places in the Old Testament, the placenames Mount Pisgah and Mount Nebo are interchangeable.
2. According to Judges 4:6-15, what mountain did Barak descend when the Israelites defeated Sisera's army?

Answer: Mount Tabor

Scripture tells of Barak, the commander of Israel's army in the days of Deborah, descending Mount Tahor before engaging Sisera and his army in battle. Judges 4:6-15 tells of Sisera gathering together nine hundred chariots of iron for the battle. Deborah, judge of Israel, is quoted as telling Barak, "This is the day in which the LORD has delivered Sisera into your hand."

Scripture goes on to tell of Barak descending Mount Tabor with ten thousand soldiers and routing Sisera and "all his chariots and all his army with the edge of the sword".
3. According to Exodus 3:1, on what mountain did Moses encounter a burning bush?

Answer: Mount Horeb

Moses saw the burning bush at Horeb, "the mountain of God", according to Exodus 3:1. According to Scripture, Moses encountered the burning bush while he was tending sheep for his father-in-law Jethro in Midian. (Jethro is also known as Reuel.)

Scripture states the flames did not consume the bush and, to Moses`amazement, an Angel of the LORD appeared to him from midst the fire.

Scripture goes on to tell of God instructing Moses he was to return to Egypt to lead the Israelites out of captivity and into a land flowing with milk and honey.

(In some places in the Bible, Mount Horeb is also called Mount Sinai.)
4. According to 2 Chronicles 3:1, on what mountain did Solomon build the temple of the LORD?

Answer: Mount Moriah

Solomon built the temple of the LORD on Mount Moriah in Jerusalem, as per 2 Chronicles 3:1. It must be pointed out Moriah is also a common name given for the mountain range in Jerusalem.

Solomon's father David had originally planned to build such a temple, but was never able to embark on the project, largely due to the fact Israel was often involved in wars (including civil wars) during his reign. Solomon promised his father he would build the temple and, according to Scripture, no expense was spared. According to 1 Kings 9:10, it took Solomon twenty years altogether to build the temple and his royal palace.
5. According to 1 Kings 5:15, to what mountain range did Solomon send 80,000 workers to quarry stones for the temple of the LORD in Jerusalem?

Answer: Lebanon

1 Kings 5:15 states Solomon sent 80,000 workers to quarry stone in the mountains of Lebanon for the temple for the LORD. Scripture goes on to state, "The king commanded them to quarry large stones, costly stones, and hewn stones, to lay the foundation of the temple."

In addition to obtaining stones from the mountains of Lebanon, Scripture also tells of Lebanon being the source of cedar trees used in construction of the temple.
6. According to 1 Kings 19:8, where did Elijah go when he fled from Ahab and Jezebel?

Answer: Mount Horeb

Scripture states Elijah, a prophet of God, ended up at Mount Horeb after he fled from the evil king Ahab and his wicked wife Jezebel. According to Scripture, Ahab and Jezebel were committed to killing all the prophets of God and Elijah was their biggest adversary.

1 Kings 19:4 states Elijah became so depressed he was thinking of committing suicide. Scripture goes on to tell of an angel appearing and giving Elijah food to eat and water to drink. Scripture then goes on to tell of Elijah travelling for forty days and nights, as far as Horeb, "the mountain of God".

(In some places in the Bible, Mount Horeb is known as Mount Sinai.)
7. According to 2 Samuel 15:30-32, what mountain did David cross when he was fleeing from Absalom?

Answer: Mount of Olives

Scripture tells of David ascending the Mount of Olives barefoot and crying as he and his supporters fled during a civil war. The war was sparked when David's son Absalom staged a coup attempt. One part of the nation supported Absalom as king and the other part supported David.

The war came to an end when Joab, the commander of David's military, killed Absalom after his hair became entangled in tree branches. Scripture states Absalom was riding on a donkey and the animal kept going forward as Absalom became more entangled.

Mount of Olives was also a place frequented by Jesus in the New Testament.
8. According to Exodus 19:18-19, what mountain became engulfed in smoke when the LORD descended upon it in fire?

Answer: Mount Sinai

Mount Sinai became engulfed in smoke when the LORD descended upon it in fire, according to Exodus 19:18-19. The verses state the mountain "was completely in smoke" and "the whole mountain quaked greatly".

Scriptures goes on to tell of the LORD calling Moses to the top of the mountain and then proceeding to give him the Ten Commandments for the Israelites to follow.

(In some places in the Bible, Mount Sinai is referred to as Mount Horeb.)
9. According to Galatians 4:25, what country did Paul say is the site of Mount Sinai?

Answer: Arabia

Paul, in Galatians 4:25, states Mount Sinai is in Arabia. He makes the statement while writing about two covenants. One covenant, he states, gives birth to bondage while the other covenant gives birth to freedom. (See Galatians 4:21-31 for further details.)

Scripture states Moses received the Ten Commandments from God on Mount Sinai. Generally speaking, Mount Sinai and Mount Horeb are held to be the same place. However, Wikipedia points out there is a small body of opinion that believes Sinai and Horeb are two different mountains.
10. According to Matthew 24 and 25, from where did Jesus give His final discourse to His disciples?

Answer: Mount of Olives

Mount of Olives is the correct answer. Matthew 24:3 states that Jesus sat on the Mount of Olives when His disciples came to Him privately, wanting to know, "what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?"

Shortly after His discourse, Scripture tells of Jesus being betrayed by Judas Iscariot for thirty pieces of silver. After being humiliated, beaten and tortured, He was taken to Golgotha to be crucified. However, all four Gospels tell of Jesus triumphantly rising from the dead three days later.
