Answer: The mother of all living

"And Adam called his wife's name Eve, because she was the mother of all living"
(Genesis 3:20). Eve is similar to a word meaning to live or living.

Answer: Cain

"Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, and said, 'I have acquired a man from the LORD.' Then she bore again, this time his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground" (Genesis 4:1-2).
The third son, Seth, wasn't born until a much later time.

Answer: The Bible doesn't say

Biblical names usually have meanings that relate something about the character of a person or events related to a person's birth. Names may not have been given immediately after birth. Sometimes names were changed when something significant happened in a person's life.

The Bible doesn't mention a meaning for Abel's name, but Abel is a Hebrew word meaning "vapor", and could have been an acknowledgment of Abel's short life.

Answer: An offering they made to God

"And in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to the LORD. Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the LORD respected Abel and his offering, but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell." (Genesis 4:3-5)

God's favor on Abel's offering over Cain's put Cain in a jealous rage, which eventually led him to commit the first murder in the Bible.

Answer: He was the first man to be explicitly cursed by God

"And He said, 'What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood cries out to Me from the ground. So now you are cursed from the earth, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand. When you till the ground, it shall no longer yield its strength to you. A fugitive and a vagabond you shall be on the earth.'" (Genesis 4:10-12)

After Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden, God cursed the serpent who tempted them and he cursed the ground that Adam would have to work, but Cain was the first man God cursed. Cain showed no remorse for murdering his brother. His only concern was that someone might murder him for what he had done, so God placed a mark on Cain to protect him - not to curse him.

Answer: The Bible doesn't say

Since Adam and Eve are the only ones mentioned as starting the human race, you have to wonder where Cain found a wife. The Bible doesn't say, so it is left to us to wonder and for theologians and scholars to ponder. Some think God may have created other people outside the Garden of Eden.

The Bible does say, "After he begot Seth, the days of Adam were eight hundred years; and he had sons and daughters" (Genesis 5:4), leaving many to believe Cain's wife was one of his sisters. What do you think?

Answer: 130 years

"This is the book of the genealogy of Adam. In the day that God created man, He made him in the likeness of God. He created them male and female, and blessed them and called them Mankind in the day they were created. And Adam lived one hundred and thirty years, and begot a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth." (Genesis 5:1-3)

Genesis also contains the first of the many genealogies listed throughout the Bible.

Answer: Lamech

"Then Lamech took for himself two wives: the name of one was Adah, and the name of the second was Zillah" (Genesis 4:19).

This Lamech is not Noah's father, but is one of Cain's descendants.

Answer: Adah

Adah was one of the two wives that Lemech, Cain's grandson, married. Zillah was Lemech's other wife and she had a daughter and her name was Naamah. From this description until the time of Abraham, who was married to Sarai, there are no other women named in the book of Genesis.

Answer: The sons of God

"Now it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them, that the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose." Genesis 6:1-2

This is a rather mysterious part of scripture. Many believe these sons of God were angels. The Bible goes on to say, "There were giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown." Genesis 6:4 (New King James Version)
