Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This man had two grandsons. He also had two sons born at exactly the same time as his grandsons. Who is this man?

Answer: Lot

There are only two boys in this story. After the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah Lot's two daughters suddenly realized that without any men they couldn't ensure the continuation of their father's line. So they, or more precisely the oldest, decided that their daddy would make a perfect substitute hubby. Thus Lot was both father and grandfather to the two boys. (Genesis 19:29-38)
2. What Queen of Judah very likely wouldn't win the competition of 'Grandmother of the Year', as she played a vital role in the deaths of several of her own grandchildren?

Answer: Athalia

Learning that her son, King Ahaziah, had died, Athalia decided that she wanted to rule the country. She just needed to get rid of the rest of the royal family, which basically meant killing her own grandchildren. (2 Kings 11:1)
She probably didn't get her nastiness from strangers as she was the daughter of Ahab and Jezebel, the infamous King and Queen pair of Israel.
3. What faithful lady had a grandson who was a missionary?

Answer: Lois

Lois was the grandmother of Timothy, the young man who travelled with Paul on various occasions. In his second letter to Timothy, Paul praises the faith of both Lois and her daughter (Timothy's mother) Eunice. (2 Timothy 1:5)
4. What king housed his grandson when the young man fled from his father's house?

Answer: Talmai

2 Samuel 13:37 states that after Absalom killed his half-brother Amnon, to avenge the rape of his sister Tamar, he fled to Talmai the king of Geshur. While this verse doesn't state that Talmai was the grandfather of Absalom, 2 Samuel 3:3 states that Absalom's mother, Maakah, was the daughter of Talmai.
5. What man's death caused his daughter-in-law to go into labour and give birth to his grandson?

Answer: Eli

When the wife of Phinehas, who was heavily pregnant, heard that both her husband and her father-in-law were dead she instantly went into labour and gave birth to a son she named Ichabod. (1 Samuel 4:19-22)
6. Who was the man who, after getting mad at his youngest son, went on to curse his grandson?

Answer: Noah

After leaving the Ark Noah planted a vineyard, got drunk and fell asleep stark naked. When his youngest son, Ham, saw that he went to tell his older brothers. They respectfully covered their dad with a blanket (walking in backwards so they wouldn't see his nakedness). However, Noah found out what Ham had done and cursed Canaan, the son of Ham. (Genesis 9:20-27)
7. Who was the man whose lame grandson ended up as part of the court of the grandfather's biggest rival?

Answer: Saul

After David had been king of Israel for a while he asked if any of Saul's house still remained, as he wanted to show them kindness for Jonathan's sake. A servant named Ziba told David about Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, who was lame in both feet. David returned everything which had been Saul's to Mephibosheth and gave the young man a place by his table. (2 Samuel 9)
8. What man, famed for his faithfulness, was the grandfather of the first set of twins in the Bible?

Answer: Abraham

Isaac, the son of Abraham, prayed to God when his wife Rebecca couldn't have children. God intervened and Rebecca ended up giving birth to twins, Esau and Jacob. (Genesis 25:21-26)
9. What man, when blessing his two grandsons, deliberately treated the younger as the older?

Answer: Jacob

Jacob requested that Joseph bring his two sons before him so he could bless them. However, even though Joseph placed the boys so Manasseh, the oldest, was standing to the right of Jacob, and Ephraim, the youngest, was standing to the left of Jacob, he just crossed his arms and placed his right hand on Ephraim's head and his left hand on Manasseh's head, even though you'd normally place your right hand on the oldest one's head.

When Joseph protested, Jacob told him that this was the way it was meant to be. (Genesis 48:13-20)
10. Who could, with a bit of a stretch, be argued to be the grandfather (of sorts) of Cain, Abel, Seth and their unnamed siblings?

Answer: God

If you look at Luke's genealogy of Christ, Adam, the father of these people, is listed as being the 'son of God'. Thus one can argue that Seth and his siblings are grandchildren of God. (Luke 3:38, NIV)
