Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This woman is probably the best known mother in the Bible. She gave birth to Jesus. Who was she?

Answer: Mary

Mary was a young woman when she became pregnant with Jesus. When she went to deliver him there was no room in the inn so she gave birth to Him in a stable and laid him in a manger. You can read about Mary, and the Christmas story in Luke 2:1-20.
2. Ruth gave birth to a son who would be the grandfather of David. Who did she give birth to?

Answer: Obed

It says in Ruth 4:22, "Obed the father of Jesse, and Jesse the father of David." David would be the line through which Jesus' lineage went through.
3. This woman wanted a child very badly. She made a promise to God that if she could have a child, she would give the child back to God. She did have a son, named Samuel. Who was this woman?

Answer: Hannah

Samuel means "God has heard". He was aptly named because God heard Hannah's prayers and saw her tears and blessed her with this child. You can read about Samuel in the books of I and II Samuel.
4. Who was Mary's cousin who gave birth to a baby named John?

Answer: Elizabeth

John the Baptist, as he was known, was the son of Elizabeth and Zechariah. He is the one who in Matthew 3:13-17 baptized Jesus.
5. Who, in her old age, gave birth to Isaac?

Answer: Sarah

Sarah laughed when God told her and Abraham they would have a child because they were both so old. Isaac's name means "He laughs". You can read about Isaac's birth in Genesis 21.
6. Who was the very first mother?

Answer: Eve

Eve is known as the "mother of all mankind" since she was the first woman to become a mother. You can read about Eve in the book of Genesis. She had at least three sons: Cain, Abel (who was killed by Cain) and Seth.
7. This woman had twins Esau and Jacob. She helped Jacob steal Esau's blessing from his father. Who was she?

Answer: Rebekah

Esau was very hairy and Jacob had no hair on his body. Issac at this point was old and mostly blind. So to trick him she had Jacob where fake hair on his hands so when Issac touched him he would think it was Esau. Since Esau was the oldest of the twins, the blessing rightfully belonged to him.

However, once Issac gave it to Jacob there was no undoing it. You can read about this in Genesis 27.
8. Abijah gave birth to a man who became a king. Who was this man?

Answer: Hezekiah

Hezekiah did what was right in the eyes of the Lord. Hezekiah also had his own book of the Bible as he was one of the Minor Prophets. You can read about Abijah also in II Chronicles 29:1, 26:5 and II Kings 18:2.
9. Jochebed was the mother of Moses. She hid him for three months; why did she do this?

Answer: Pharaoh had ordered all male Hebrew babies to be killed.

You can read about Moses in the book of Exodus. Moses was found by the Pharaoh's daughter and became like a brother to Pharaoh. As he grew older he learned he was really a Hebrew and fought to set his people free.
10. This woman gave birth to Joseph, Jacob's favorite son. Who was she?

Answer: Rachel

Joseph was Jacob's favorite son because Rachel was his favorite wife. Laban, Rachel's father, tricked Jacob. Jacob wanted to marry Rachel, and had to work for seven years for Laban in order to do so. But when the veil was lifted at the first wedding it turned out that Jacob had married Rachel's sister, Leah. So he had to work another seven years to marry Rachel, the woman whom he loved. Joseph was 11th out of 12 boys.

They also had a sister named Dinah. Rachel gave birth to two of Jacob's children: Joseph and Benjamin.

She died giving birth to Benjamin. You can read about Jacob and Rachel and their family in Genesis 30.
