Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Bible tells us that the first-ever couple was Adam and Eve. They had three children named in the Bible, plus several grandchildren. According to the Book of Genesis, who was their first grandchild?

Answer: Enoch

After Cain killed Abel, God sent him away from his parents so he chose a wife and went. Later he had a son and he named him Enoch. Then he built a city and named it after his son. This information can be found in Genesis 4.
2. What's the name of the second son David had with Bathsheba?

Answer: Solomon

When David first saw Bathsheba, she was bathing, and he sent for her. He slept with her and she became pregnant. When he heard that she had a husband, he had her husband put at the front of the battle lines so that he would be killed. After her husband was killed he married her and she gave birth to his son. (We know the child was a boy because, in 2 Samuel 11:27, it says she bore him a son). God was mad at him for what he did so he sent a prophet to David.

The prophet told him that because of what he had done, his son wasn't going to live very much longer.

The child died after only living a week. After this Bathsheba became pregnant again. She gave birth to another son and they named him Solomon. Solomon later succeeded David as king of Israel.

This story can be found in 2 Samuel 11-12.
3. What's the name of the couple from Acts who lost their lives because they lied about their offering to God?

Answer: Ananias and Sapphira

In Acts 4 it says that if any Christian sold some land they would bring all of the money to the apostles, who in turn would give it to the needy. In chapter 5 Ananias and his wife Sapphira sold a field but they put some of the money aside for themselves. Ananias gave the rest to the apostles, saying that it was all that they gotten for the field. Because of his lie, God struck him dead and the people standing by took his body and buried it. About three hours later, Sapphira, who didn't know what had happened to her husband, went to the apostles. Peter asked her if the money given to him was all that they had gotten for the field.

She lied as her husband had and God struck her dead as well. The people standing there buried her by her husband.

The story can be found in Acts 4:32-5:11.
4. The woman an Old Testament judge loved turned on him and told his enemies how he could be defeated. Who was the judge? (Spelling of his name according to the NIV Bible)

Answer: Samson

Before Samson was born, his parents were told by God that they couldn't cut their son's hair or he would lose his strength. Many years later Samson fell in love with a woman named Delilah. But his enemies, who were Philistines, asked Delilah how he could lose his great strength and bribed her with money.

She asked Samson and he told her something other than the truth. When the Philistines tried to overtake him he just dealt with them like he always had. This happened a couple of times but then Samson told Delilah the truth and she had his hair cut while he was sleeping.

She then called in the Philistines and they gouged his eyes out and put him in prison. Later on he was taken to the Philistine castle and he asked God for his strength back. God restored it to him. Samson pushed the pillars from under the castle and the castle fell on him and his enemies, killing them all. Samson's story can be found in Judges 13-16.
5. Which of Jesus' disciples does the Bible say was married?

Answer: Peter

We know he was married because in Matthew 8:14-15 Jesus went to Peter's house and healed Peter's mother-in-law of a fever. In order for you to have a mother-in-law you must be married, so we know that Peter was married.
6. What Old Testament couple were the great-grandparents of King David?

Answer: Boaz and Ruth

The book of Ruth talks about Ruth's and Naomi's husbands dying. The pair of women moved back to Naomi's homeland. There Ruth met Boaz and they got married. At the end of the book there is a genealogy that shows Boaz and Ruth as the parents of Obed, who is the father of David's father, Jesse. That genealogy is found in Ruth 4.
7. What Old Testament couple were king and queen of Israel during the time of Elijah?

Answer: Ahab and Jezebel

Ahab and Jezebel became rulers of Israel in the thirty-eighth year of Asa king of Judah. They did evil in the eyes of the LORD and served Baal instead of God. Because of this, God said through Elijah that there wouldn't be any rain for a long time. During this drought was the famous contest between Elijah and the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel, found in 1 Kings 18. Ahab died in a battle at Ramoth Gilead and Jezebel died when she was thrown out a window in Jezreel. Dogs ate her flesh as the LORD had said would happen. Ahab's story can be found from 1 Kings 16:29 through his death in 1 Kings 22. Jezebel's death can be found in 2 Kings 9:30-37.
8. Which Biblical couple were in their nineties before they had their first and only child?

Answer: Abraham and Sarah

Sarah was ninety and Abraham was ninety-nine when Isaac was born. One year earlier, they were visited by three angels who said they would have a child. Sarah laughed because she didn't believe them. When Isaac grew up and got married he had twin boys named Jacob and Esau. Jacob wrestled with God and his name was changed to Israel. His thirteen children's descendants are the Israelites. Abraham (Abram)'s story can be found in Genesis 12-25.

Note that Abraham had six other children by his wife Keturah. This can be found in Genesis 25. And he also had one by Hagar, giving Abraham eight children altogether.
9. What couple other than Adam and Eve can all of the people in the world be traced back to, according to the book of Genesis?

Answer: Noah and his wife

About 1600 years after the world was made God sent a flood and saved only Noah, his wife, his sons and their wives. Noah's story can be found in Genesis 6-9.

You couldn't trace everyone only to Seth and his wife because his brother Cain also had children. Abraham was a descendant of Noah and Methuselah was a descendant of Seth and ancestor of Noah.
10. What was the name of Hosea's wife?

Answer: Gomer

In Hosea 1 Hosea is told by God to marry a harlot "for like an adulterous wife this land is guilty of unfaithfulness to the LORD" (Hosea 1:2). They had a son and God told them to name him Jezreel, "because I will soon punish the house of Jehu for the massacre at Jezreel, and I will put an end to the kingdom of Israel.

In that day I will break Israel's bow in the Valley of Jezreel" (Hosea 1:4).
