quiz
Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Jesus predicted His resurrection by comparing His body to what structure?

Answer: temple

Jesus referred to his own body as a temple. This is consistent with I Corinthians 6:19 where it states clearly to Christians that their bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus clarified about this in John 2:18-21: "The Jews then responded to him, 'What sign can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?' Jesus answered them, 'Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.' They replied, 'It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?' But the temple he had spoken of was his body."
2. Another sign was mentioned in Matthew about the resurrection of Jesus. What prophet was the sign referring to?

Answer: Jonah

To Christians, the sign of Jonah is two-fold. It talks of repentance of a wicked nation, whose redemption is based on faith in what Jonah said. And of course, Jesus spent the same amount of time in the tomb just as Jonah spent three days inside the belly of the "fish".

According to Matthew 12:39-40, "He [Jesus] answered, 'A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.'"
3. Jesus also claimed that He had the authority to accomplish the resurrection all by Himself.

Answer: True

John 10:17-18 says, "The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life -- only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again."
4. Who were the first people to find Jesus's tomb empty?

Answer: Women

In Mark 16:1, it is recorded that "When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus' body." Obviously these women expected to see a dead body. What a shock when they found out that the stone at the entrance of the tomb was rolled away and the tomb was empty!
5. Jesus made several appearances to people after His resurrection. At least how many people did Jesus appeared to at one of these occasions?

Answer: 500

Jesus made a total of 12 appearances after His resurrection. Group sizes ranged from one to over five hundred.

Although not specifically mentioned in the Gospels, the apostle Paul did write in I Corinthians 15:5-6 "that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep."
6. At the shore of Galilee a well-known conversation with Peter occurred where Jesus asked Peter three times "do you truly love me more than these?" and then gave a command. Jesus commanded Peter to "feed His _____" what?

Answer: sheep

Three times Jesus tells Peter to "feed his lambs", "tend his sheep" and "feed his sheep".

Jesus' sheep are all Christians, both Gentiles and those who were originally Jewish (John 10:14-16). Jesus is the Shepherd and Christians follow him. In John 10:11 Jesus said "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep."

Jesus wasn't talking about physical sheep, therefore the action of feeding is not a physical one. Jesus is instructing Peter to give spiritual nourishment to the Christians.
7. Before Jesus left the earth, He gave instructions to His disciples to spread the Gospel to all nations. Recorded in Matthew 28:18-20, this is known as "The Great __________" what?

Answer: Commission

The mission of evangelical Christians is world evangelism, not only in words but also in a lifestyle that matches their response to a lost world.

Jesus said in Matthew 28:18-20 that "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
8. As witnessed by His disciples, from where did Jesus ascend into Heaven?

Answer: Bethany

Acts 1:12 also mentioned the Mount of Olives. Bethany was located on the eastern slopes of the Mount of Olives.

As recorded in Luke 24:50-51, "When he [Jesus] had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven."
9. One of the most comforting passages for Christians as to the reason why Jesus went back to Heaven is found in John 14. What does this passage tell us about why Jesus went back to Heaven?

Answer: to prepare a place for them

Jesus' work on earth is done. According to John, he has gone ahead to prepare a place for all Christians, and shall return for them one day.

Jesus told his disciples in John 14:2-3 that "My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am."
10. In an event also known as the Second Coming, Jesus has promised to return one day to judge the world. When will this take place?

Answer: no one knows

Because of the fact that no one can predict the day of His return, Christians are admonished to stay watchful and live a life worthy of their calling.

Jesus cautioned his followers in Mark 13:32-33 with these words: "But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come."
