Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where in the NKJV Bible is the first occurrence of the word "night"?

Answer: Genesis 1:5

After dividing the light from the darkness, God called the light DAY, and darkness NIGHT (Genesis 1:3-5).
2. How did God lead the Israelites in the wilderness at night?

Answer: In a pillar of fire

God's presence with His people was made visible in a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night (NKJV, Exodus 13:21,14:19,20,24;40:38; Numbers 9:21).
3. To whom did God appear at night and say: "Ask! What shall I give you?", as per the NKJV translation?

Answer: Solomon

See 1 Kings 3:5 and 2 Chronicles 1:7.

Solomon went to the bronze altar in front of the tent of meeting and sacrificed 1,000 burnt offerings on it. On that same night, God appeared to him and He not only granted him more wisdom than he asked for, but He also added many unsolicited blessings because Solomon's request was focused on serving God. (See 1 Kings 3:4-13 and 2 Chronicles 1:7-12.)
4. Which king of Babylon was slain at night?

Answer: Belshazzar

See Daniel 5:30 (NKJV).

Belshazzar was the last king of Babylon. He defied God by using sacred vessels to serve his guests at a drunken orgy during which they praised false gods. On that same night, he was slain and Darius the Mede entered the city and began his reign.
5. Who was the Pharisee who came to see Jesus at night?

Answer: Nicodemus

It was this same Nicodemus who stood up for Jesus before the Sanhedrin (John 7:45-53) and helped Joseph of Arimathea bury the body of Jesus (John 19:39-40).
6. To whom did Jesus say, "Assuredly, I say to you that this night, before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times" as per the NKJV?

Answer: Peter

See Matthew 26:34 and John 13:38.

After Jesus and His disciples had the Last Supper together, they went out to the Mount of Olives where Jesus made the above statement. Just as Jesus predicted, Peter denied Him three times before the cock crowed (Matthew 26:69-75; Mark 14:6672; Luke 22:54-62; John 18:15-18,25-27). Jesus prayed that Peter's faith would not fail (Luke 22:32).
7. According to Luke 21:37 (NKJV), Jesus was teaching in the temple in the daytime, but where did He go at night?

Answer: Mount of Olives

The Lord often prayed on the Mount of Olives (Luke 22:39) and other solitary places (Matthew 14: 23; Mark 1:35; 6:46, Luke 5:16). He once prayed all night, again "on the mountain", before appointing His disciples the following morning (Luke 6:12-13).
8. Based on the NKJV translation, who had a night vision of a man riding on a red horse standing among the myrtle trees, followed by red, sorrel, and white horses?

Answer: Zechariah

See Zechariah 1:8.

Like his contemporary Haggai, Zechariah was a post-exilic prophet who encouraged the Jewish remnant from Babylon to rebuild the temple. Zechariah 1:7-6:15 contains a sequence of eight night visions and the one we looked at above is the first one.

The man riding on a red horse is the angel of the LORD (Zechariah 1:9, 11) and those horses of different color were assigned by God to patrol the earth (Zechariah 1:10).
9. Which apostle was sleeping, in between two soldiers, bound with two chains, when an angel of the Lord woke him up in the middle of the night?

Answer: Peter

See Acts 12:7 (NKJV).

This was Peter's third arrest (Acts 4:3;5:18), and second miraculous deliverance from prison (Acts 5:19,20). Peter was scheduled to be executed like James, the brother of John (Acts 12:2), but his execution was delayed because it was against Jewish law to have a trial or sentencing during a Passover celebration. Both of Peter's wrists were chained. He had a soldier on each side, and two more stood guard outside his cell. Peter was sleeping when an angel of the Lord woke him up, removed his chains and led him out of the prison.
10. Where does the word "night" appear for the last time in the New Testament (NKJV Bible)?

Answer: Revelation 22:5

Revelation 22:5 reads, "There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever." There will be no night or need for lamp, light of the sun. Elsewhere in the Bible, we read that Jesus gives light and is light (1 John l:5).
