Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Find the match for Anna. (Luke 2:37)

Answer: Faithfulness

No one can accuse Anna of not being faithful. In fact, she was apparently as reliable as the world-famous geyser Old Faithful. Luke 2:37, in the NKJV Bible, states Anna "did not depart from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day." According to verse 37, she was the daughter of Penuel, of the tribe of Asher, and was of "great age" and a widow.

After Jesus was presented as an infant at the temple by his parents Mary and Joseph, Scripture states Anna "gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of Him to all those who looked for redemption in Jerusalem."
2. Find the match for James. (Matthew 17:1)

Answer: Mount Transfiguration

The events on Mount Transfiguration are recorded in the seventeenth chapter of Matthew, the ninth chapter of Mark and the ninth chapter of Luke. According to Scripture, Peter, James and John were with Jesus when Elijah and Moses appeared in their midst.

Matthew 17:1-8, in the NKJV Bible, states: "Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light. And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, 'Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.' While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, 'This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!' And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were greatly afraid. But Jesus came and touched them and said, 'Arise, and do not be afraid.' When they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only."
3. Find the match for Andronicus. (Romans 16:7)

Answer: Imprisoned with Paul

Not much is known about Adronicus as he is mentioned in passing reference. According to Scripture, Andronicus was a Jew who was a member of the early church and had apparently been imprisoned with Paul. Romans 16:7 in the NIV states: "Greet Andronicus and Junia, my fellow Jews who have been in prison with me. They are outstanding among the apostles, and they were in Christ before I was."

Romans was written by Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, and the 16th chapter is regarded by many as a tribute to the 'Joe' and 'Jane' Christians of the day.
4. Find the match for Aquila. (Acts 18:1-2)

Answer: Deported from Rome

Acts 18:1-2 states Paul met Aquila and his wife Priscilla in Corinth after Claudius ordered all the Jews to leave Rome.

Notes in the NIV Study Bible state Claudius served as Emperor of Rome from 41 to 54 AD. All Jews were ordered deported during his reign. Corinth is in Greece, about 75 kilometres southwest of Athens. Paul's books 1 Corinthians and 2 Corinthians are addressed to followers of Christ in Corinth.

Aquila and his wife Priscilla were vibrant and dynamic members of the early church.
5. Find the match for an unnamed leper. (Luke 17:11-19)

Answer: Thankfulness

An unnamed leper is synonymous with thankfulness. According to Luke 17:11-19, Jesus cleansed ten lepers but only one, a Samaritan, returned to give thanks.

Scripture reports after the lepers asked Jesus to cleanse them, He simply told the lepers "go, show yourselves to the priests." As they proceeded on their way to show themselves to the priests, a miracle happened as Scripture reports they were suddenly healed of their leprosy. According to notes in the NIV Study Bible, showing oneself to the priests was a normal procedure after a cure. (Further information about showing oneself to the priests can be found in Leviticus 13:2-3 and 14:2-32.)

When one of the lepers discovered he was cleansed, Scripture reports he returned to Jesus praising God in a loud voice. The former leper was obviously ecstatic at being without the deplorable affliction Jesus had removed forever from his life. It must have been a wonderful sight to see.

Scripture also reports the former leper was a Samaritan. This is noteworthy because Jews and Samaritans largely despised each other in Biblical times. Although there was a major rift between the Jews and Samaritans in Biblical times, the four Gospels continually report about Jesus looking favorably upon the Samaritans. Some examples that leap to mind are the Samaritan woman at the well and the Parable of the Good Samaritan.

No information is given about the nine other men who were healed of leprosy as there is no further mention of them again in Scripture. We can only speculate. Many Christians see the story about the ten lepers as a lesson in the importance of giving thanks and how easy it is to take blessings in life for granted.
6. Find the match for Lazarus. (John 11:17)

Answer: Stinking corpse

According to John 11:17, Lazarus had been dead four days when Jesus raised him from the dead. According to Wikipedia, rigor mortis lasts for about 72 hours, or three days. In this case, the rigor mortis was over and now the body was starting to decay in the hot Mediterranean sun.

John 11:39 in the NKJV Bible quotes Martha, the sister of Lazarus, objecting to a command of Jesus to remove a stone from Lazarus' tomb: "Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days."

In other words, Lazarus was a stinking corpse!

However, in John 11:43 Jesus said in a loud voice, "Lazarus, come forth!" (In the NIV Bible, the statement is "Lazarus, come out.") And that's exactly what he did, to the astonishment of everyone. It's amazing that when Jesus raised people from the dead, He used few words.

When He raised the widow's son in the Nain from the dead and Jairus' daughter from the dead, He said seven words in each situation, for a total of 14 words, in the NKJV Bible. (In the NIV Bible, He said eight words in each situation, for a total of 16 words.) For details about Jesus raising the widow's son from the dead, see Luke 7:11-17. Details about Jesus raising the little girl from the dead can be found in Mark 5:21-43. (Please feel free to play two other quizzes I have compiled. One is about the widow's son and the other is about Jairus' daughter.)

It must have been an incredible sight when Lazarus was raised from the dead. Only a few moments before, the people were mourning the death of Lazarus. Now there is unbelievable jubilation. According to John 11:45-57, the raising of Lazarus from the dead triggered events that led to the crucifixion of Jesus. The chief priests and the Pharisees called a meeting of the Sanhedrin, and the rest, as they say, is history.
7. Find the match for Paul.

Answer: Wrote 13 books

There are 13 books in the New Testament that contain Paul's name as the author. The books include Romans, 1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 Thessalonians, 2 Thessalonians, 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, Titus and Philemon.

Some people believe Paul also wrote Hebrews, but there is no conclusive proof of this. Paul, once known as Saul, served as the main apostle to the Gentiles.
8. Find the match for Dorcas. (Acts 9:36)

Answer: Charitable deeds

Dorcas is also known in Scripture as Tabitha. The account of Peter raising her from the dead is found in Acts 9:36-43. She is described in verse 36 in the NKJV as "full of good works and charitable deeds." (In the NIV it states Dorcas was "always doing good and helping the poor."

Immediately before this miracle, Peter healed Aeneas, a paralytic who had been bedridden for eight years.
9. Find the match for Timothy. (Acts 16:1)

Answer: Lystra

According to Acts 16:1, Timothy joined up with Paul and Silas at Lystra.

The young church worker was the recipient of the messages in two books in the New Testament. The books are 1 Timothy and 2 Timothy. Acts 16:2, in the NKJV Bible, states Timothy was "well spoken of by the brethren who were at Lystra and Iconium."
10. Find the match for Andrew. (John 1:40)

Answer: Disciple of John

Prior to becoming a disciple for Jesus, Andrew served as a disciple of John the Baptist, as per John 1:40.

Details about John the Baptist appear in Matthew 3:1-17, Luke 3:1-20, and John 1:19-34. He preached a message of repentance and told the people he had been sent to prepare the way for the long-promised Messiah. He had harsh words for the church leaders of the day (the Sadducees and the Pharisees), calling them "a brood of vipers." John also baptized Jesus in the Jordan River.

Some evangelical Christians regard John as the last of the Old Testament prophets.
