Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Find the match for Eve. (Genesis 4:25)

Answer: Mother of Seth

According to Scripture, Eve gave birth to three boys who are named Cain, Abel and Seth. After Cain killed Abel, Eve gave birth to Seth. According to Genesis 4:26, Seth was the father of Enosh. The same verse states, "then men began to call on the name of the LORD".
2. Find the match for Deborah. (Judges 4)

Answer: Defeated Sisera

Deborah was judge of Israel when a spectacular military victory was recorded over Sisera. There's no doubt she was a spark plug who made things happen. Her story is told in the fourth and fifth chapters of Judges. According to Judges 4:2, Jabin king of Canaan ruled over the Israelites who were cruelly oppressed by Sisera, the commander of his army. Things changed dramatically, however, when Deborah rose to power.

The Israelites, led by Deborah and her general Barak, scored a decisive military victory over Sisera and their freedom was gained. According to Judges 4:16, "all Sisera's troops fell by the sword; not a man was left." Deborah was the only female judge and Judges 4:4 refers to as a prophetess.

Her husband's name was Lapidoth in the NKJV and Lappidoth in the NIV, but little is known about him as he is mentioned in passing reference.
3. Find the match for Jahzeel. (Genesis 46:24)

Answer: Jacob's grandson

Jahzeel was Jacob's grandson, but little is known about him as he is mentioned in passing reference. Genesis 46:24 simply states he was the first born son of Naphtali. (Naphtali was the fifth son of Jacob and his mother was Bilhah, Rachel's handmaid, as per Genesis 30:1-8.) According to the Website Christiananswers.net, Jahzeel means allotted by God.
4. Find the match for Parshandatha. (Esther 9:7)

Answer: Son of Haman

Parshandatha was one of ten sons of Haman. The sons and Haman were all executed, as per the ninth chapter of Esther. Haman, of course, had a diabolical scheme to exterminate all the Jews in the vast area ruled by the man known as Ahasuerus in the NKJV Bible and Xerxes in the NIV Bible. Haman was thwarted in his plans by Queen Esther and her cousin Mordecai. According to Esther 9:7-9, the names of Haman's other sons were Dalphon, Aspatha, Poratha, Adalia, Aridatha, Parmashta, Arisai, Aridai and Vaizatha.
5. Find the match for Daniel. (Daniel 1:7)

Answer: Belteshazzar

According to Scripture, Daniel was given the name Belteshazzar. Daniel's three friends also got new names: Hananiah was called Shadrach, Mishael was called Meshach and Azariah was called Abednego.

The name Belteshazzar is not to be confused with the name Belshazzar. According to the fifth chapter of Daniel, Belshazzar was the king of Babylon who saw the fingers of a man's hand write a message on the wall at a lavish feast he hosted. The chapter concludes with the death of Belshazzar, as predicted by Daniel, or Belteshazzar.
6. Find the match for Lot. (Genesis 14:14)

Answer: Rescued by Abraham

Lot was captured by opposing forces only to be rescued by Abraham, who was known as Abram at the time, and set free, as per Genesis 14. According to Genesis 11:27, Lot was the son of Abraham's brother Haran.

Genesis 14:14-16 has this to say about the rescue mission: "Now when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his three hundred and eighteen trained servants who were born in his own house, and went in pursuit as far as Dan. He divided his forces against them by night, and he and his servants attacked them and pursued them as far as Hobah, which is north of Damascus. So he brought back all the goods, and also brought back his brother Lot and his goods, as well as the women and the people."
7. Find the match for Joseph. (Genesis 41:45)

Answer: Zaphenath-Paneah

Zaphenath-Paneah was the name the Pharaoh gave to Joseph after he was appointed as the second most powerful man in Egypt. According to notes in the NKJV Study Bible, Zaphenath-Paneah probably means 'The God Speaks and Lives'. Genesis 41:45 also states Asenath, the daughter of Piotiphera, priest of On, became his wife. According to Verse 46, Joseph was thirty years old at the time.
8. Find the match for Saul. (1 Samuel 18:6-9)

Answer: Loathed David

Saul, it seems, totally despised David. This, even though David had no hard feelings towards Saul.

Saul might have been a mighty king, but he definitely had a number of personal issues. His reign started relatively smoothly, but in later years it seemed Saul was preoccupied with a burning desire to kill David simply because he was deeply jealous of the young shepherd boy who kept making a name for himself.

Even though Saul wanted him dead, David did everything possible to avoid any confrontation with the king. In fact, even when David had opportunity to kill Saul, he refused to do so. (1 Samuel 24 and 26)

It's difficult to comprehend, but according to Scripture, Saul was filled with total resentment of David when the women of Israel sang praises for the former shepherd boy, proclaiming his victories much more impressive than anything Saul had ever done.

Here's how 1 Samuel 18:6-9 explains the sordid situation: "Now it had happened as they were coming home, when David was returning from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women had come out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet King Saul, with tambourines, with joy, and with musical instruments. So the women sang as they danced, and said:
'Saul has slain his thousands,
And David his ten thousands.'
Then Saul was very angry, and the saying displeased him; and he said, 'They have ascribed to David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed only thousands. Now what more can he have but the kingdom?' So Saul eyed David from that day forward."

From this point on, David was a marked man.
9. Find the match for Obadiah

Answer: One-chapter book

The one-chapter Old Testament book Obadiah is a vision Obadiah saw concerning Edom, the descendants of Esau. In 1 Kings 18, it states the prophet Obadiah was the one Elijah sent to King Ahab of Israel to challenge him to a test on Mount Carmel. The prophets of Baal set up an altar on Mount Carmel and prayed Baal would ignite their altar. The altar of Baal's prophets never caught fire so Elijah set up an altar and prayed God would ignite the altar he had set up. Scripture states when Elijah prayed, God sent fire from Heaven that not only burnt up the offering, but licked up twelve large jars' worth of water he had poured on his offering.

Scripture goes on to state that after this, the nation of Israel knew the God of Elijah was the one true God.
10. Find the match for Lot when he was drunk. (Genesis 19:30-38)

Answer: Impregnated daughters

No names are given for Lot's two daughters who became impregnated by him when they got him drunk. Their offspring are identified, however. The older daughter gave birth to a boy called Moab who became the father of the Moabites while the younger daughter gave birth to a boy called Ben-Ammi, father of the people of Ammon.

According to Scripture, the two daughters felt they had to take such action because there were no other men available to them and they wanted to preserve their father's lineage.

Here's how Genesis 19:30-38 describes the situation in the NKJV"
"Then Lot went up out of Zoar and dwelt in the mountains, and his two daughters were with him; for he was afraid to dwell in Zoar. And he and his two daughters dwelt in a cave. Now the firstborn said to the younger, 'Our father is old, and there is no man on the earth to come in to us as is the custom of all the earth. Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve the lineage of our father.' So they made their father drink wine that night. And the firstborn went in and lay with her father, and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose.

"It happened on the next day that the firstborn said to the younger, 'Indeed I lay with my father last night; let us make him drink wine tonight also, and you go in and lie with him, that we may preserve the lineage of our father.' Then they made their father drink wine that night also. And the younger arose and lay with him, and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose.

"Thus both the daughters of Lot were with child by their father. The firstborn bore a son and called his name Moab; he is the father of the Moabites to this day. And the younger, she also bore a son and called his name Ben-Ammi; he is the father of the people of Ammon to this day."

With passages like this, it's difficult to fathom how some people describe the Bible as "dry and boring".
