Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I was a military officer under David and was regarded as one of his "mighty warriors," as per I Chronicles 11:20-21. Who am I?

Answer: Abishai

The correct answer is Abishai. Perhaps one of the reasons he was a "mighty warrior" was because he was a relative of David, the shepherd boy who slew Goliath and went on to accomplish a long list of military feats. Scripture reports Abishai was the oldest son of David's sister Zeruiah and he was the brother of Joab and Asahel. (I Chronicles 2:16).

When you see Abishai's name in Scripture, chances are he is involved in warfare.
2. I was the son of Ahab and Scripture says I continued in his wicked ways when I ascended to the throne. My death was unusual as I died from injuries sustained when I fell through an upper room lattice. Who am I?

Answer: Ahaziah

Ahaziah is the correct answer. Scripture states he died after serving two years as king of Israel without leaving a heir. As a result, Ahaziah was replaced by his brother Jehoram. Much of Ahaziah's story is told in the first chapter of 2 Kings. When Elijah the prophet proclaimed the king would die from injuries sustained from his fall through the upper room lattice, Ahaziah attempted to capture the prophet. Two military units sent to capture Elijah met their doom, however, when the prophet called down fire from heaven. True to what Elijah said, the king died from his injuries. (Incidentally, this king is not to be confused with a king of Judah named Ahaziah, who ruled for one year.)
3. I was the son of Cushi and a descendant of Hezekiah. I was a prophet during the reign of King Josiah, writing one of the books in the Old Testament. Who am I?

Answer: Zephaniah

Zephaniah, a great-grandson of Hazekiah, is the correct answer. He boldly predicted that immorality and idolatry in Judah would result in harsh judgment. However, he also told about coming blessings for Judah at a later date. Zephaniah is one of the 12 minor prophets in the Old Testament.
4. I was the son of Manoah and a judge of Israel. I had long hair and super strength and ended up being betrayed by a woman. Who am I?

Answer: Samson

Samson was betrayed by his mistress Delilah. Scripture states he had immense strength, enabling him to wrestle with a lion and slay 1,000 soldiers with only the jawbone of a donkey. When Delilah discovered the secret to Samson's super strength was his long hair, she cut off his locks and delivered the immensely weakened Samson to his enemies, who blinded and imprisoned him.

When Samson's hair grew back, his strength was restored and he caused a temple to collapse destroying thousands of Philistines as well as himself, as per Judges 16:23-31.

The final verse states Samson ruled Israel for 20 years.
5. I was the daughter of King Saul and became the wife of David after he killed 200 Philistines. Who am I?

Answer: Michal

Michal, similar to her brother, Jonathan, played a key role in thwarting her father's attempts to kill David. She informed David that King Saul had sent people to murder him and he was able to take evasive action. Details about David killing the Philistines to win Michal's hand can be found in the 18th chapter of 2 Samuel. Scripture states she would later despise her husband for "dancing and celebrating" as he helped bring back the ark of the covenant to Jerusalem. According to 2 Samuel 6:23, Michal had "no children to the day of her death."
6. I was the mother of Moses and I found a novel way to save my son from a command to kill all Hebrew newborn boys. I then became his nanny under the Pharaoh's daughter. Who am I?

Answer: Jochebed

The story of baby Moses is told in Exodus 2:1-10. Jochebed's name appears in Exodus 6:20 and Numbers 26:59. She placed Moses in a small basket along the banks of the Nile River where he was discovered by members of the Pharaoh's household and ended up being raised by them.

In addition to being the mother of Moses, she had two other famous offspring -- Aaron and Miriam. Jochebed was from the tribe of Levi and was the wife of Amram.
7. I was a woman who killed the Canaanite leader Sisera by driving a tent peg through his head after he had fled, following his stinging defeat by the Israelites under the leadership of Deborah and Barak. Who am I?

Answer: Jael

Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite, was the assassin. Scripture states Sisera hid in the tent of Heber and after he fell asleep, Jael killed him by driving a tent peg through his skull. Jael's actions are celebrated in the Song of Deborah (Judges 5:24-27).
8. I was one of the minor prophets who wrote a book in the Old Testament and I decided to trust God regardless of how desperate things appeared. Who am I?

Answer: Habakkuk

Habakkuk is the correct answer. It is believed he wrote the Old Testament book just prior to the capture of Jerusalem by the Babylonians. His book is different from other books of the minor prophets in the sense that he asked questions of God while others simply gave messages. Just one example of question asked by Habakkuk is "O Lord how long shall I cry and You will not hear?" The book, however, ends with Habakkuk's declaration that his total trust is in the Lord, regardless of how dire the circumstances might become.
9. I was a Philistine giant felled by a stone from David's slingshot. Who am I?

Answer: Goliath

Goliath, of course, is the correct answer. His story is told in the 17th chapter of 1 Samuel. Scripture reports he was from Gath. 1 Samuel 17:4-7 in the NIV Bible says he was a giant of a man and I have included additional information about him in between the brackets: 'His height was six cubits and a span. [That is, about 9 feet 9 inches or about 3 meters.] He had a bronze helmet on his head and wore a coat of scale armor of bronze weighing five thousand shekels [That is, about 125 pounds or about 58 kilograms.]; on his legs he wore bronze greaves, and a bronze javelin was slung on his back.

His spear shaft was like a weaver's rod, and its iron point weighed six hundred shekels.[That is, about 15 pounds or about 6.9 kilograms] His shield bearer went ahead of him." Scripture states David chose five smooth stones from a stream for his slingshot, but it appears all he needed was one as 1 Samuel 17:49, in the NIV Bible states: "Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead.

The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell face down on the ground."
10. I was a minor prophet who wrote a book in the Old Testament and I denounced the northern kingdom of Israel for its idolatry, injustice, corruption, and oppression of the poor. Who am I?

Answer: Amos

Amos issued nine warnings in his book. According to the Web site Christ-centered-mall.com the warnings are: Flee from cruelty; Don't forsake God's laws; Don't worship wealth; Heed God's chastisements; Flee false religious practices; Beware of false security; Don't disdain God's spokesmen; Don't revile God's holy days; Don't flee from God. Out of the 12 books by the minor prophets, Amos appears third, after Hosea and Joel.
