Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. My husband was Lamech and excluding Eve, I am the first woman mentioned by name in the Old Testament. Who am I?

Answer: Adah

Adah is the correct answer. Her name appears in Genesis 4:19 where it states she married Lamech who took a second wife, Zillah. Scripture states Adah gave birth to Jabal and Jubal. Jabal was the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock while Jubal was the father of those who play the harp and flute, according to Scripture.
2. I was the mother of King Ahaziah and when he was killed I proceeded to murder all the royal heirs to ensure I would ascend to the throne. Who am I?

Answer: Queen Athaliah

The sordid story of Queen Athaliah is found in the 11th chapter of 2 Kings as well as the 22nd and 23rd chapters of 2 Chronicles. She was the daughter of Ahab and Jezebel (2 Kings 8:18) and she was the original 'queen of mean'. When her son Ahaziah died, she was unstoppable in her demented mission to have herself instilled as queen. To this end, she killed all Ahaziah's children except Joash, the youngest, as per 2 Kings 11:1-2. (The only reason she didn't kill Joash is the fact he was placed in a hiding.) In other words she killed her own grandchildren to cement her hold on power.

She reigned for six years and was killed in an insurrection. 2 Kings 11:20 states "all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was calm" when the news was announced Athalia had been killed with the sword at the palace.
3. I was the son of Barakel the Buzite, of the family of Ram, and I tried to comfort my friend Job when he faced immense trials. Three men -- Eliphaz, Bildad and Zophar -- are mentioned in Job 2:11 as being there early to help Job and I didn't show up until the 32nd chapter, but when I did, I played a major role in the dialogue. Who am I?

Answer: Elihu

The correct answer is Elihu, who was much younger than Job and his three friends who tried to help him. As a result of his youth, Elihu initially refrained from making any statements, as per Job 32: 4-6. However, when Elihu speaks, he is eloquent and doesn't pull any punches and expresses his anger at Job as well as at Eliphaz, Bildad and Zophar.
4. I was the king of Judah and Scripture reports I was pious and prosperous. I was succeeded by my son Jehoram. Who am I?

Answer: Jehoshaphat

Jehoshaphat is the correct answer. Scripture states he was the son of King Asa and he became the fourth king of Judah. After reigning for 25 years, Jehoshaphat was succeeded by his son Jehoram. Jehoshaphat attempted to end idolatry and did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, as per 1 Kings 22:43 but Scripture states the people continued to burn incense in the high places.

Despite his apparent love for the LORD, Jehoshaphat formed an alliance with King Ahab and his wife Jezebel of the northern kingdom. Ahab and Jezebel were two of the most unpopular people in the Old Testament, largely because of their persecution of the LORD'S prophets and their worship of other gods.
5. I replaced my father Solomon as king. Who am I?

Answer: Rehoboam

Rehoboam replaced Solomon as king. Scripture reports he got off to a bad start when he ignored the advice of his father's advisers and followed the advice of young men he had grown up with, as per 1 Kings 12. And from there things got worse. The ten northern tribes broke away and before long Rehoboam was left ruling over a much smaller domain than his father Solomon and his grandfather David. According to 1 Kings 14:21, Rehoboam was 41 years old when he became king and he reigned for 17 turbulent years.

He was succeeded by his son Abijah.
6. I was the female leader of a nation and I went to Jerusalem to meet with Solomon as I had heard so much about his splendor. Who am I?

Answer: Queen of Sheba

The visit by the Queen of Sheba is recalled in the 10th chapter of 1 Kings and the 9th chapter of 2 Chronicles. Scripture reports she arrived in Jerusalem with "a very great caravan" carrying spices, large quantities of gold, and precious stones. Scripture also reports she was "overwhelmed" with Solomon's wisdom and his immense wealth. According to notes in the NKJV Study Bible, Sheba was located in southwestern Arabia, present-day Yemen.
7. I was a prophet who rebuked King David for having an adulterous affair with Bathsheba and for making arrangements to have her husband Uriah killed. Who am I?

Answer: Nathan

The account of Nathan confronting David is found in the 12th chapter of 2 Samuel. He used a parable to make David aware of the seriousness of his sinning when he had an adulterous affair with Bathsheba and than made arrangements for the murder of her husband. Nathan than made the pronouncement that the child who would be born as a result of the adulterous affair would die, and sure enough it came to pass.

Incidentally, it was Nathan who told an elderly and frail David of the plot of Adonijah to become king.

The end result as that Solomon became king, as per 1 Kings 1:8-45.
8. My mother was Rachel and I was the only full brother of Joseph. Who am I?

Answer: Benjamin

Benjamin is the correct answer. Scripture records Rachel died giving birth to Benjamin and according to Genesis 35:18, she named him Ben-Oni, but Jacob, the father, called him Benjamin. Although Benjamin was the only full brother of Joseph, he joined his other brothers in agreeing to sell Joseph into slavery.

It's interesting to note that when Joseph becomes a prominent official in the Pharaoh's government and he is visited by his eleven brothers, Benjamin is the one he singles out for special treatment in more ways than one.

In Genesis 43:34, Benjamin is given five times more food than the other brothers by Joseph and in the 44th chapter he plants a silver cup in Benjamin's sack which results in a dramatic change of events and the revelation by Joseph he is their long-lost brother.
9. I was the father of Leah and Rachel who were both married to Jacob. Who am I?

Answer: Laban

Laban is the correct answer. There's no disputing the fact he was shrewd and devious. Laban got fourteen years of labor out of Jacob, largely by tricking him. Jacob agreed to work for seven years for Laban if he could marry his younger daughter Rachel.

However, at the end of seven years, Laban gave Jacob his older daughter Leah in marriage, saying "it is not our custom here to give the younger daughter in marriage before the older one." So, Jacob agreed to work an additional seven years for Rachel's hand.

It's a case of what goes around, comes around. After all, Jacob was a master deceiver as he had duped his elderly father Isaac into giving him his blessing over his twin brother Esau, as per Genesis 27: 1-40. After this incident, Jacob ended up fleeing as Esau plotted to kill him.
10. I was a minor prophet who was commanded by the LORD to marry Gomer, described as a woman of whoredom in the KJV. Who am I?

Answer: Hosea

Hosea was commanded by the LORD to marry Gomer. In Hosea, 1: 2-3, in the KJV Bible, God tells Hosea to marry a wife of "whoredom" as an illustration of Israel's infidelity to God. Hosea 1:2-3, in the NIV Bible, states: "When the LORD began to speak through Hosea, the LORD said to him, 'Go, take to yourself an adulterous wife and children of unfaithfulness, because the land is guilty of the vilest adultery in departing from the LORD.' So he married Gomer daughter of Diblaim, and she conceived and bore him a son."
