Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is Nahum's origin?

Answer: Elkoshite

Nahum 1:1 "The burden of Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite."

Elkosh is believed to have been in Judah but its exact location is unknown.
2. What are the clouds according to Nahum 1:3 (King James Version)?

Answer: the dust of the Lord's feet

Nahum 1:3 "The Lord is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the Lord hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm and the clouds are the dust of his feet."

There are eight times in the King James Version of the Bible where the words "slow to anger" appear in the Bible. They are: Nehemiah 9:17, Psalm 103:8, Psalm 145:8, Proverbs: 15:18, Proverbs 16:32, Joel 2:13, Jonah 4:2 and Nahum 1:3.
3. According to Nahum 1:9, will affliction rise again?

Answer: No

Nahum 1:9 "What do ye imagine against the Lord? he will make an utter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time."

According to the commentary by Jamieson-Fausset-Brown, this refers to the idea that God will have the final say, so mortals do not need to worry about seeking revenge.
4. How are the chariots described in Nahum 2:3, in the words of the King James Version?

Answer: with flaming torches

Nahum 2:3 "The shield of his mighty men is made red, the valiant men are in scarlet: the chariots shall be with flaming torches in the day of his preparation, and the fir trees shall be terribly shaken."

Nahum was probably written about 100 years after the book of Jonah. Jonah had to give the message about repentance to the people of Nineveh. They did for a while, but by the time Nahum came along they were at their old ways again. So by this point, judgement is falling on Nineveh.
5. What does Nahum say shall become of the palace?

Answer: It shall be dissolved.

Nahum 2:6 "The gates of the rivers shall be opened, and the palace shall be dissolved."

Again, this is referring to the fall of Nineveh because of the city's great disobedience toward God.
6. Who shall be "led away captive" in verse 2:7 (King James Version)?

Answer: Huzzab

Nahum 2:7 "And Huzzab shall be led away captive, she shall be brought up, and her maids shall lead her as with the voice of doves, tabering upon their breasts."

According to "Smith's Bible Dictionary" it is not completely certain who Huzzab was, but it is widely believed that she was a queen in Nineveh at one point.
7. What was Nineveh full of, according to Nahum 3:1 in the King James Version?

Answer: lies and robbery

Nahum 3:1 "Woe to the bloody city! it is all full of lies and robbery; the prey departeth not"

Nahum knows that Nineveh is in a lot of trouble, and Nineveh just doesn't get it.
8. Which places were the helpers, according to Nahum 3:9 in the King James Version?

Answer: Put and Lubim

Nahum 3:9 "Ethiopia and Egypt were her strength, and it was infinite; Put and Lubim were thy helpers.

Put was an African region bordering Egypt. Lubim is believed to be Libya.
9. What are "the crowned" compared to in Nahum 3:17 (King James Version)?

Answer: locusts

Nahum 3:17 "Thy crowned are as the locusts, and thy captains as the great grasshoppers, which camp in the hedges in the cold day, but when the sun ariseth they flee away, and their place is not known where they are."

Locust are very common and not wanted creatures in the Middle East, so the comparison shows that the head people of the country are not wanted.
10. What is the last word of Nahum in the King James Version?

Answer: continually

Nahum 3:19 "There is no healing of thy bruise; thy wound is grievous: all that hear the bruit of thee shall clap the hands over thee: for upon whom hath not thy wickedness passed continually?"

I hope you enjoyed this quiz on Nahum. The next quiz will be on the book of Habakkuk.
