Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What does Nahum say the Lord will reserve for his enemies (KJV)?

Answer: his wrath

It says in Nahum 1:2, "God is jealous, and the LORD revengeth; the LORD revengeth, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies."

God as a jealous God can also be seen in the 10 Commandments when He commands believers to only have one God. This is found in the book of Exodus.
2. What does Nahum say quakes at God?

Answer: the mountains

It says in Nahum 1:5, "The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein."

This verse shows the power of God, that even nature acknowledges Him.
3. How is the Lord described in Nahum 1:7 in the King James Version?

Answer: a strong hold in the day of trouble

It says in Nahum 1:7, "The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him."

A strong hold is a "well-fortified place" according to dictionary.com.
4. What tree does chapter 2 tell us will be "terribly shaken" in the King James Version?

Answer: fir

It says in Nahum 2:3, "The shield of his mighty men is made red, the valiant men are in scarlet: the chariots shall be with flaming torches in the day of his preparation, and the fir trees shall be terribly shaken."

According to Gill's commentary (www.bible.cc) the war would be so great that the forest would look like it was being shaken from the impact of the swords and chariots.
5. Who does Nahum 2:7 tell us will be "led away captive" in the King James Version?

Answer: Huzzab

Huzzab was the Queen of Nineveh at the time of Nahum's prophecy.
6. What does Nahum 2:13 say will burn in the smoke?

Answer: her chariots

It says in Nahum 2:8, "Behold, I am against thee, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will burn her chariots in the smoke, and the sword shall devour thy young lions: and I will cut off thy prey from the earth, and the voice of thy messengers shall no more be heard."

The "her" in this verse refers to Nineveh.
7. What does the horseman lift up in Nahum 3 (King James Version)?

Answer: the bright sword and the glittery spear

It says in Nahum 3:3, "The horseman lifteth up both the bright sword and the glittering spear: and there is a multitude of slain, and a great number of carcases; and there is none end of their corpses; they stumble upon their corpses."
8. Why is God so angry with Nineveh?

Answer: Because of all the evil-doings there.

It says in Nahum 3:4, "Because of the multitude of the whoredoms of the wellfavoured harlot, the mistress of witchcrafts, that selleth nations through her whoredoms, and families through her witchcrafts."

In this entire book Nahum makes it clear that God is angry and destruction will happen.
9. What two countries are referred to as "her strength"?

Answer: Ethiopia and Egypt

It says in Nahum 3:9, "Ethiopia and Egypt were her strength, and it was infinite; Put and Lubim were thy helpers."

Egypt is one of the oldest nations that is still a nation today. Ethiopia is also a very old nation, which based on this verse most likely was not as poor as it is today.
10. Who is compared to grasshoppers in chapter 3 of the King James Version?

Answer: the captains

It says in Nahum 3:17, "Thy crowned are as the locusts, and thy captains as the great grasshoppers, which camp in the hedges in the cold day, but when the sun ariseth they flee away, and their place is not known where they are."

"Thy captains" most likely refers to the princes of the country.
