Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Out of the four names below, which one, according to Psalm 106:16 in the KJIV and NKJV, is described as a saint? (The NIV uses different wording.)

Answer: Aaron

In Psalm 108:16, Aaron is described as a 'saint' in the KJV and NKJV. (The NIV uses different wording, saying "Aaron was consecrated to the LORD.") The verse is part of a passage telling of the Israelites wandering in the wilderness for forty years as they made their way from Egypt to Canaan, known as the Promised Land. Aaron was the brother of Moses. According to Scripture, the two men, with the assistance of their sister Miriam, led the Israelites out of Egypt.
2. Out of the four names below, which one was a nurse for Rebekah? (Genesis 35:8)

Answer: Deborah

Deborah is the correct answer. However, not much is known about her as she is mentioned in passing reference and is mentioned in only Genesis 35:8. The verse tells of her death and states she was buried "below Bethel under the terebinth tree" with the tree being known as Allon Bachuth. According to notes in the NKJV Study Bible, Allon Bachuth means Terebinth of Weeping.

There is a second Deborah in the Old Testament, of course. She was a prophetess and the only female judge of Israel. For more about Deborah the judge, see Judges 4.
3. Using the NIV, how does Paul in Philemon 1:11 describe the runaway slave Omnesimus? (The KJV and the NKJV use a different word.)

Answer: Useful

Paul describes Onesimus as useful in the NIV. (In the KJV and the NKJV, the word profitable is used.)

Onesimus was a run-away slave Paul met in Rome and converted to Christianity. Making things remarkable is the fact Philemon, the master of Onesimus and a resident of in Colosse, was Paul's good friend. The book of Philemon is a heart-felt plea by Paul to Philemon to accept Onesimus back, but not as a slave, but as an equal in Christ.

According to notes in the NIV Study Bible, the name Onesimus means 'useful'. so in Verse 11 in the NIV, Paul makes a play on words, while writing to Philemon: "Formerly he was useless to you, but now he has become useful to both you and me."
4. What was the name of the woman who sold purple cloth and was converted to Christianity by Paul at Philippi? (Acts 16:14)

Answer: Lydia

Lydia, a seller of purple cloth, was converted to Christianity by Paul in Philippi. Going strictly by Scripture, Lydia was the first member of the early church in Europe. Many theologians believe Lydia was wealthy, as the purple cloth she sold was an extremely expensive commodity in Biblical times. It was worn by only royalty and the elite. For more about Lydia, see Acts 16:11-15.
5. Who was the worker in the early church who served on the Island of Crete?

Answer: Titus

Titus is the correct answer. The Epistle of Titus is based on a letter Paul sent to Titus. In Titus 1:5, Paul makes mention Titus was serving at the time on the island of Crete and instructs him to "appoint elders in every city".

Titus is the seventeenth book in the New Testament, in the order of appearance. It appears after Second Timothy and is followed by Philemon.

Crete is the largest and most populated Greek island.
6. According to Scripture, where did the Philistines capture the Ark of the LORD'S covenant after scoring a major military victory over the Israelites? (1 Samuel 5:1-2)

Answer: Ebenezer

Ebenezer is the correct answer. Details are given in the fourth and fifth chapters of 1 Samuel with Scripture stating 30,000 Israelite soldiers were killed in the bloody battle. Scripture goes on to tell of the Philistines being beset with a number of plagues and the Ark of the LORD'S covenant eventually being returned to Israel.

The exact location of Ebenezer is not known, with different websites suggesting different possibilities.
7. Complete the missing word from the Song of Solomon 2:1 in the NKJV Bible" "I am a _______ of Sharon, a lily of the valleys."

Answer: Rose

'Rose' is the missing word in the verse. The 'rose of Sharon' is used in the Song of Solomon to describe the beauty of a young woman. According to Wikipedia, there is considerable speculation as to what flower the 'rose of Sharon' actually was. Although the 'rose of Sharon' is fairly common in today's English, Song of Solomon 2:1 is the only place in the entire Christian Bible the words can be found. Sharon is one of the largest plains in Palestine.

(The KJV and the NIV also use the word 'rose'.)
8. According to Genesis 2:8, what was the name of the garden in which Adam and Eve initially lived?

Answer: Eden

Details about Adam and Eve, the first man and the first woman, living in the Garden of Eden are found in Genesis 2 and 3. Scripture states they were driven out of Eden by God after they ate forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
9. Who was the servant girl who went to answer the door after Peter escaped from prison and then got so excited when she realized it was Peter, she went to tell the other occupants of the house and left him knocking? (Acts 12:12-16)

Answer: Rhoda

Rhoda was the highly excitable servant girl who left Peter knocking on the door after he miraculously escaped from prison. Scripture states she rushed to tell others in the household Peter was at the door. It must have been exasperating for Peter. He had just miraculously escaped from prison but in an irony of ironies, he was encountering difficulty getting inside the house of friends. According to Scripture, the incident took place at the home of Mary, the mother of John Mark.

For more details, see Acts 12:12-16.
10. Now take the first letter from each answer to come up with a nine-letter word that can be used to describe King David.

Answer: Adulterer

David was an adulterer, with Scripture telling of him having sexual relations with Bathsheba while both of them were married. Bathsheba would become pregnant as a result of the affair and after trying unsuccessfully to cover up things, David ended up orchestrating the death of Bathsheba's husband, Uriah.

Scripture goes on to tell of David taking Bathsheba as his wife. Later, she would become the Queen Mother when her son Solomon replaced David as king. As a result, she would've been the most powerful woman in Israel.
