Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. According to 1 Kings 10:26, what Israelite king had 1,400 chariots and 12,000 horses?

Answer: Solomon

Solomon is the correct answer. When it came to wealth and splendor, Solomon was without equal among the Israelites. In addition to four thousand stalls for chariot horses, and twelve thousand horses, Solomon had seven hundred wives and three hundred concubines. 1 Kings 10:21 states that gold was so common in Solomon's days that silver was considered of little value.
2. Apart from Eve, who is the first woman mentioned by name in the Old Testament? (Genesis 4:19)

Answer: Adah

Adah is the correct answer. However, not much is known about her as she is mentioned in passing reference. According to Genesis 4:19-20, Adah's husband was Lamech and they were the parents of Jabal and Jubal. Scripture states Jabal "was the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock" and Jubal "was the father of all those who play the harp and flute."

Adah was involved in the first polygamous marriage in the Bible with Zillah also wedded to her husband Lamech, according to Genesis 4:19.
3. In all the parables said by Christ, only one person is identified by name. It's the parable that appears in Luke 16:19-31 in which Jesus tells of a rich man and a helpless beggar who lived outside his house. The rich man is not identified, but the beggar is. What's the name of the beggar?

Answer: Lazarus

Lazarus is the only person who is named in a parable by Jesus. The parable of the rich man and Lazarus appears in only the Gospel of Luke with the account appearing in Chapter 16, Verses 19-31. According to the parable, Lazarus lived outside the door of a rich man and he was so helpless the dogs would come to lick his sores. No name is given for the rich man.

Scripture tells of Lazarus and the rich man dying, with Lazarus ending up by the side of Abraham and the rich man in a place of torment. When the rich man requests that Lazarus come and dip the tip of his finger in water and cool his tongue, Abraham tells him this is not possible because there is a "great chasm" and no one can cross over it.

There is a second Lazarus, of course, who is mentioned in the Gospels. He was the brother of Mary and Martha and was raised from the dead at Bethany, as per John 11:1-44.
4. After surviving a shipwreck off the coast of Malta, Acts 28:3 states the apostle Paul was bitten by a creature. What creature bit Paul?

Answer: Viper

Miraculously nothing happened after Paul was bitten by a viper. The snake bite happened after Paul and his party made their way to shore in Malta after surviving a shipwreck.

According to Acts 28:2-3, the islanders built a fire and welcomed Paul's group. Verse 3 states Paul gathered a pile of brushwood and, as he put it on the fire, a viper, driven out by the heat, fastened itself on his hand. However, Scripture states the snake bite had no impact on Paul, much to the amazement of the islanders. (Some translations use other descriptions of the snake, some just calling it a poisonous snake.)

Scripture goes on to tell of Paul's party staying on the island for some time and in the process, Paul performed a number of miraculous healings and many came to believe in a resurrected Jesus Christ.
5. According to 2 Kings 6:1-7, what item, or items, did Elisha cause to float on the Jordan River?

Answer: Axhead

According to 2 Kings 6:1-7, Elisha caused an axhead to float on the Jordan River. The story of the floating axhead appears in 2 Kings 6:1-7. In a nutshell, Elisha and a group of prophets were cutting trees along the Jordan River to build a new place to live when suddenly an axhead fell into the water.

The prophet who lost the axhead was apparently filled with distress as it was borrowed. When Elisha asked the man where the axhead fell, the spot was pointed out to him. 2 Kings, 6-7 states Elisha cut a stick and threw it where the axhead was and caused it to float.

The man then reached out and retrieved the axhead.
6. The Parable of the Lost Coin is found in Luke 15:8-10. In the parable a woman has a certain number of silver coins and loses one of them and then manages to find it. How many coins did she have in total?

Answer: Ten

The correct answer is ten. The parable is found in Luke 15:8-10 and appears in only Luke and not in the three other Gospels.

In the parable, a woman who has ten silver coins, loses one of them, and conducts a thorough search of her house to find the missing coin. When she finds the coin, the woman rejoices and calls her friends and neighbors to rejoice with her. While referring to the woman rejoicing over finding her lost coin, Jesus concludes the parable by stating, "Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."
7. 1 Samuel 4:19 tells of Eli's daughter-in-law being pregnant and near her time of delivery and when she heard the news the Ark of God had been captured and her father-in-law and her husband were dead, she went into labor and died giving birth. What was the child's name?

Answer: Ichabod

Ichabod is the correct answer. The mother's name isn't given. She is simply identified as Eli's daughter-in-law and the wife of Phinehas. Her death is recorded right after Eli died as a result of learning of the death of his two sons (Hophni and Phinehas) and the capture of the Ark of God by the Philistines. According to Scripture, as soon as Eli, a priest of Israel, heard about the capture of the Ark of God, he fell off his chair and broke his neck.

Scripture goes on to state that when Eli's daughter-in-law was dying giving birth to a baby boy, it was decided the infant would be called Ichabod, meaning 'The Glory has Departed From Israel.'
8. Going strictly by Scripture, Lydia, the seller of purple cloth in Philippi, was the first convert to Christianity in Europe. Where exactly did Paul encounter Lydia in Philippi? (Acts 16:13)

Answer: Outside the city gate by a river

Paul and his group met up with Lydia outside the city gate, by a river. According to Scripture, she was with a group of women.

Lydia was a dealer in purple cloth. In Biblical times, the color purple was associated with royalty and kingship and was in demand by the elite. The production of purple cloth was a painstaking and tedious process and required thousands of shells from an ocean mollusk to make a couple yards of cloth, according to information from SermonCentral.com.

According to Scripture, the meeting between Paul and his group with Lydia took place on the Sabbath. Luke, the writer of Acts, states Paul and his group had gone outside the city gate, by the river, on the Sabbath, expecting to find a place to pray.
9. According to Scripture, who served as a cupbearer to King Artaxerxes?

Answer: Nehemiah

Nehemiah was the cupbearer to King Artaxerxes, as per Nehemiah 1:11. Scripture records that he was successful in getting permission from the king to lead a contingent of Israelites out of Persia and back to Jerusalem to re-build the walls around the city.

He was the son of Hachaliah. The job of the cupbearer was to serve drinks at the royal table. In other words, Nehemiah was a butler in the royal palace of King Artaxerxes.
10. Now take the first letter from each answer to come up with a nine-letter word often associated with the four Gospels.

Answer: salvation

Salvation is the correct answer. According to the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, Jesus Christ was the Son of God, and He came into the world in the form of a man who died on the cross only to be resurrected from the dead and in the process brought salvation to the world.

Speaking before the Sanhedrin in Acts 4:12, the disciple Peter states salvation is through Jesus Christ and no other name.
