Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Paul advised a group of believers in the early church to "let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one." In which community were the believers based?

Answer: Colosse

The correct answer is Colosse, a community in present day Turkey. The verse in question is Colossians 4:6.

Colosse was the home of Philemon, the owner of the run-away slave Onesimuis who Paul converted to Christianity. According to Colossians 4:7-9, Paul's letter was delivered to believers in Colosse by Tychicus and Onesimus.
2. According to 2 Samuel 6:3-11, who was struck dead for touching the Ark of God?

Answer: Uzzah

Uzzah is the correct answer. The sixth chapter of Samuel tells of David and 30,000 "able young men of Israel" taking the Ark of God from Baalah to Jerusalem. According to the fifth verse, the Israelites were ecstatic with "David and all Israel were celebrating with all their might before the LORD, with castanets, harps, lyres, timbrels, sistrums and cymbals." Then things took a dramatic turn.

2 Samuel 6:6-7 states when the gathering came to Nachon's threshing floor, the oxen pulling the Ark of God stumbled and Uzzah took hold of the Ark. Scripture goes on to state Uzzah's actions resulted in God striking him dead.
3. The apostle Paul is traditionally credited with writing thirteen books in the New Testament. In the order the books appear, what's the last book?

Answer: Philemon

Out of the thirteen books Paul is traditionally credited with writing, Philemon is the last one in the order they appear in the New Testament. Paul wrote the book after he converted Onesimus, a runaway slave to Christianity. The book is a passionate appeal to the slave's master Philemon to accept Onesimus back as an equal in Christ. Philemon lived in Colosse while Paul was in Rome at the time of the writing of the letter to Philemon. According to notes in the NKJV Study Bible, a slave who ran away from his master could face the death penalty under Roman law.
4. What was the name of the blind beggar who had his sight restored when Jesus visited Jericho? (Mark 10:46)

Answer: Bartimaeus

Bartimaeus was a helpless beggar who regained his sight after he had an encounter with Jesus. His story appears in the 10th chapter of the Gospel of Mark. It's a heartwarming story and has always been one of my favorites. In fact, the first quiz I did for FunTrivia was about blind Bartimaeus. According to Scripture, Bartimaeus was the son of Timaeus but no other details are given about his family.

After Bartimaeus regained his sight, Jesus is quoted as saying, in Mark 10:52, "your faith has made you well."
5. According to Genesis 4:17, what was the name of the first city mentioned in the Bible?

Answer: Enoch

The first city mentioned in Scripture is Enoch. According to the fourth chapter of Genesis, Cain constructed the city when he went into exile after he murdered his brother Abel. Scripture states Cain called the city Enoch after his son.
6. The book of Revelation is the last book in the Christian Bible. What's the last word in Revelation, in the KJV, NKJV and NIV?

Answer: Amen

Amen is the correct answer. The word appears at the end of Revelation 22:21. The verse in question, in the NKJV, states: "The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen."

Incidentally, the word Amen appears nine different times in Revelation in the NIV and eight times in the NKJV.
7. Who was the first-born son of Jacob and Leah? (Genesis 29:32)

Answer: Reuben

Reuben was Jacob's first son and his mother was Leah. (Jacob was also married to Leah's sister Rachel and fathered children with his wives' handmaidens, Zilpah and Bilha.) Reuben was the only one of the eleven brothers who did not want to sell Joseph into slavery. According to Genesis 37:21, he wanted his brothers to throw Joseph into a cistern so he could rescue him and take him back to his father.

It was all in vain, of course, as Joseph would end up being sold into slavery in Egypt.
8. Who was the prophet of God who cured Jericho of its bad water by adding some salt to it?

Answer: Elisha

Elisha is the correct answer. The miracle of Elisha purifying the water is told in 2 Kings 2:19-23. According to the passage, when Elisha was made aware of Jericho's bad tasting water, he added a bowl of salt to the source and presto, the water tasted fine. In fact, Verse 23 states the water "remains healed to this day."

According to Wikipedia, Jericho is one of the longest continually inhabited cities in the world.
9. What is the first well-known sister act in the Hebrew Bible, or the Old Testament?

Answer: Rachel and Leah

Rachel and Leah, of course, is the correct answer. The three other options (Sarah and Rebekah; Bathsheba and Abigail; Hannah and Peninnah) weren't even sisters.

Rachel and Leah were both married to Jacob. According to Scripture, the two sisters did not get along, largely because Jacob loved Rachel and didn't care much for Leah. And while this was happening, Leah was giving birth to children while Rachel was barren.

Scripture suggests there was friction between the two, notably in passages beginning in Genesis 29:31 to 30:32. Leah took delight in bearing children for Jacob while Rachel was barren. By bearing children, Leah mistakenly thought she could win Jacob's affection, but it was not to be. Rachel may have been Jacob's true love, but she was apparently jealous of Leah for being able to bear children while she was barren.
10. Now take the first letter from each answer to come up with a nine-letter name for an occupation mentioned in Scripture.

Answer: Cupbearer

Cupbearer is the correct answer. According to Nehemiah 1:11, Nehemiah was a cupbearer for King Artaxerxes. Nehemiah used his contact with the king to get permission for the Israelites to return to Jerusalem to re-build a wall around the city. In Biblical times, the duty of cupbearers was to serve drinks at the royal table. Before serving refreshments to the ruling monarch, a cupbearer would first taste the drink to make sure it was not poisoned.
