In Orthodox icons St George is always on a white horse while St Demetrius is shown on a red horse. Both were soldiers. St George is shown slaying a dragon whilst St Demetrius is slaying a gladiator.
2. Saint George is the patron saint of a number of countries. Of which one of these is he the patron saint?

Answer: England

St David is the patron saint of Wales, St Andrew of Scotland and St Patrick of Ireland. St George is also the patron saint of Georgia, Palestine, Ethiopia and others.

The legend of St George and the Dragon originated in Libya. The dragon is used to represent Satan.

In Georgia, St George's Day is celebrated 13 days later as they use the Julian Calendar which was based on the Roman calendar. In 1582 the Gregorian calendar was introduced and is now commonly used throughout most of the world. Much of the Eastern Orthodox Church continues to use the Julian calendar, for example for setting the date of Easter.

As the two calendars have gradually drawn apart there are now 13 days' difference between them.

St George was a Roman soldier who refused to give up his sacrifice to the Roman gods and declared himself as a Christian. After various tortures the emperor Diocletian had him executed.
