The infamous Salem witch trials were started by Samuel Parris, who was a minister at a church in Salem, Massachusetts in what is now the USA. His daughter got sick and he called for a doctor who came and didn't know what was wrong, so he declared that she had been struck by witchcraft. Samuel started the events that led to the Trials.

The witch trials of Salem were started in 1692, and they ended in 1693. Innocent people were killed because of misinformation and narrow mindedness. Though these witch trials took place in what is now the US, the Christian authorities in Europe oversaw the execution of thousands of people based on accusations of witchcraft, over many years.

Twenty people in Salem were killed. Worldwide the number rises to perhaps 60,000, although good records were not always be kept.
I think that, to move on, people should forgive, but it can't be easily forgotten. Many people who shouldn't have died, did because of narrow mindedness and false information.
