Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the name of the worker in the early church who came from Cyprus and was always encouraging others (NKJV)?

Answer: Barnabas

Barnabas was a worker in the early church who hailed from Cyprus. His original name according to Acts 4:36 was Joses (Jospeh in the NIV Bible) but the apostles gave him the nickname Barnabas because he was a tremendous encouragement to others.
2. Now take the last three letters of your answer to the previous question to start the answer to this question: According to Genesis 26:34 (NKJV), what was the name of the woman who was a daughter of Elon and a wife of Esau?

Answer: Basemath

Genesis 26:34-35 tells of Esau taking two wives when he was forty years old. One wife was Basemath, the daughter of Elon the Hittite, while the second wife was Judith, the daughter of Beeri the Hittite. Little is known about Basemath and Judith but according to Verse 35 they didn't meet the approval of Esau's parents, Isaac and Rebekah. In fact, the verse states they were "a grief of mind" to Isaac and Rebekah.

Genesis 36:10 states Basemath gave birth to a son, Reuel.
3. Now take the last three letters of your answer to the previous question to start the answer to this question: What was the name of the city in which Paul noted there was an altar dedicated to the 'unknown god'. (Acts 17:22-23, NKJV)

Answer: Athens

Paul was in Athens when he appeared before the Areopagus and told them they must be "very religious" because he had been considering the objects of their worship when he found an altar dedicated to "the unknown god".

Paul then proceeded to tell the gathering about Jesus and the resurrection. Scripture goes on to tell of many scoffing at his message but some people becoming believers, including Dionysius the Areopagite and a woman named Damaris.
4. Now take the last three letters of your answer to the previous question to fill in the missing word from Proverbs 12:13 in the NKJV: "The wicked is __________ by the transgression of his lips, but the righteous will come through trouble.

Answer: ensnared

The missing word from Proverbs 12:13 in the NKJV is 'ensnared'. (Rather than use the word 'ensnared', the NIV uses 'trapped'.) The verse is part of a passage which states the house of the righteous shall stand. To put the verse in context, here's how Proverbs 12:12-14 reads in the NKJV: "The wicked covet the catch of evil men, but the root of the righteous yields fruit.

The wicked is ensnared by the transgression of his lips, but the righteous will come through trouble. A man will be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth and the recompense of a man's hands will be rendered to him."
5. Now take the last three letters of your answer to the previous question to fill in the missing word from Galatians 3:13 in the NKJV: "Christ has _________ us from the curse of the law..."

Answer: redeemed

The missing word from Galatians 3:13 is 'redeemed'. Galatians was written by Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, and addressed to believers in the early church at Galatia, now part of present day Turkey.

To put the verse in context, here's how Galatians 3:13-14 reads in the NKJV: "Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, 'Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree'), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith."
6. Now take the last three letters of your answer to the previous question to fill in the missing word from 1 Timothy 2:5 in the NKJV: "For there is one God and one __________ between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus."

Answer: Mediator

The missing word from word from 1 Timothy 2:5 is 'Mediator'. 1 Timothy was written by Paul to Timothy, a young and timid worker in the early church. Timothy was a favorite of Paul and on different places in Scripture he describes Timothy as his son.

To put 1 Timothy 2:5 in context, here's how it reads with Verse 6 in the NKJV: "For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time."
7. Now take the last three letters of your answer to the previous question to fill in the missing word from Mark 5:7 in the NKJV, Scripture telling of Jesus encountering a demon possessed man: "And he cried out with a loud voice and said, 'What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I implore You by God that You do not _________ me.'"

Answer: torment

'Torment' is the missing word from Mark 5:7 in the NKJV. (The NIV uses the word 'torture' rather than torment'.) The verse is part of a passage telling of Jesus meeting a demon possessed man who lived among the tombs in Gadarene. According to Scripture, the man was possessed by a legion of demons but they were no match for Jesus. Scripture tells of Jesus ordering the demons to leave the man and when they did so, they entered into a large herd of pigs that went wild and ended up running wildly into the Sea of Galilee and drowning.
8. Now take the last three letters of your answer to the previous question to fill in the missing word from Psalm 100:4 in the NKJV: "_________ into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name."

Answer: Enter

The missing word from Psalm 100:4 is 'Enter'. To put the verse in context, here's how Pslam 100:4-5 reads in the NKJV: "Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name for the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting and His truth endures to all generations."

The words to Psalm 100 have been set to music and it has become a popular hymn with Christians around the world. However, no one knows for certain who wrote the Psalm as the author's name is not included.
9. Now take the last three letters of your answer to the previous question to answer this question: What was the name of the man who was the father of Abram, as per Genesis 11:26?

Answer: Terah

Terah was the father of Abram, who would later become known as Abraham. Genesis 11:26 states he was also the father of Nahor and Haran. Terah's father was Nahor. Genesis 11:31 tells of Terah and his family leaving Ur and settling in Canaan. Verse 32 goes on to state Terah was two hundred and five years old when he died.
10. Now take the last three letters of your answer to the previous question to answer this question: What was the name of the prostitute in Jericho who gave safe haven to two Israelite spies?

Answer: Rahab

Rahab is the correct answer. Scripture tells of Joshua sending two men to spy out the city of Jericho before the Israelites moved in to conquer the city. The two unnamed men were given safe haven by Rahab. When authorities came to Rahab's house questioning her about reports that two men believed to be spies had entered her house, she lied and told them the men had departed some time before. In actuality, Rahab had hid the men beneath some flax on her roof.

Later, when the Israelites conquered Jericho, the lives of Rahab and her family were spared.
