Answer: Osteitis

Osteitis is the inflammation of the bone and can occur in any of the 206 bones within the adult human body.
Iritis and uveitis are inflamed parts of the eye and epididymitis is the inflammation of an area on the testicle.
2. What is the term used to describe the inflammation of a kidney?

Answer: Nephritis

Nephritis is the inflammation of the kidney. The medical prefix (nephro-) means a relation to the kidney, nephrology and nephrologist being two examples.
Diverticulitis is the inflammation of the diverticulum which are situated along the intestinal walls and tracheitis is the inflammation of the trachea. Rhinitis is any inflammation to do with the nose.

I have included the three common ways of naming the intestinal inflammation. Crohn's ileitis is to do with the small intestine, Crohn's colitis is related to the large intestine and Crohn's enteritis is a general term for all parts of the intestinal passage.

Answer: Neurology

A neurologist would be needed to treat encephalitis. This inflammation is usually caused by a virus and mainly affects the young, the elderly and the immuno-weakened.

Just to clarify, a neurologist specialises in conditions relating to the brain, a cardiologist is to do with the heart, dermatologists treat skin disorders and nephrologists specialise in kidney malfunctions.

This is an inflammatory condition which causes great abdominal discomfort. The general treatment will be admittance to hospital where food and drink will be off limits and the removal of the gallbladder which is named a cholecystectomy will be performed.

Answer: Splenitis

The inflammation of the spleen is indeed splenitis. The condition has many causes including a parasitic infection and cysts. Sometimes the spleen will be inflamed to such an extent that it will be surgically removed in a splenectomy operation.

An unusual condition, glossitis is the inflammation of the tongue. Papillae which are projections on the surface of the tongue are lost which gives the tongue a smooth feel and sometimes the tongue changes colour.
