Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the process in which DNA is copied into messenger RNA?

Answer: transcription

Reverse transcriptase is RNA to DNA, translation is messenger RNA to transfer RNA, while translocation is a type of genetic error.
2. What does the 'r' (yes, the lowercase r) in rRNA stand for?

Answer: Ribosomal

Ribosomal RNA is RNA in the ribosome of a cell (as the name implies...). In rDNA, the 'r' might stand for either ribosomal or recombinant.
3. Which is NOT a nitrogen base of RNA?

Answer: Thymine

DNA contains Thymine. In RNA, Uracil takes its place.
4. What is the sugar in DNA?

Answer: deoxyribose

Deoxyribose, as in Deoxyribonucleic Acid. (For the record, the sugar in RNA is ribose).
5. What does Cytosine pair up with?

Answer: Guanine

Cytosine pairs with Guanine. Adenine pairs with Thymine (or, in RNA, Uracil). Leucine is an amino acid, not a nitrogen base. There. Don't you feel unnecessarily enlightened now?
