Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. If the measure of the angles in a triangle are in a ratio of 3:4:5, the measure of an exterior angle of the triangle can NOT be (in degrees)?

Answer: 165

180 divided by 12x (for the angles) is 15. so the measurements must be 45 degrees, 60 degrees and 75 degrees. The exterior angles will be 135, 120 and 105 degrees, respectively.
2. Which is an equation of the line that passes through point (3,5) and is parallel to the x-axis?

Answer: y=5

Since it is given that the line is parallel to the x-axis, the line must = y. And since the y value is 5, the answer is y=5.
3. Which is the converse of the statement 'If today is Presidents' Day, then there is no school'?

Answer: If there is no school, then today is Presidents' Day.

'If p then q'. The converse is 'If q, then p.'
4. If a point in Quadrant IV is reflected in the y-axis, its image will lie in which Quadrant?

Answer: III

To reflect a point on the y-axis, you replace the x-coordinate with its opposite.
5. If point R' (6,3) is the image of R(2,1) under a dilation with respect to the origin, what is the constant of the dilation?

Answer: 3

Find out what you can multiple R's coordinates by to get R's coordinates - that is the dilation.
6. Which equation represents the axis of symmetry of the graph of the equation y=(x)squared - 4x - 12?

Answer: x=2

The equation x= -(b over 2a) is the equation for the axis of symmetry.
7. If the complement of angle A is greater than the supplement of angle B, which statement MUST be true?

Answer: measurement of angle A is less than measurement of angle B

It is given that the complement of angle A (90 - angle A) is greater than the supplement of angle B (180 - angle B). Hence 90 - angle A is greater than 180 - angle B. (Or angle B = angle A + 90.)
8. What is the slope of a line that passes through points (-4, 2) and (6,8)?

Answer: 3 over 5

Slope is change in y over change in x.
9. If (2x-3) and (x+5) are multiplied to form a trinomial a(x)squared +bx + c, which is the value of b?

Answer: 7

It would be 2(x)squared + (10x-3x) +(-15). Which turns out to be 2(x)squared +7x - 15.
10. If 'A then not B' and B are both true statements, then which conclusion must be true?

Answer: Not A

Since B is true, not B must be false. According to the Law of Modus Tollens, if A then not B is true, and not B is false, then not A must be true.
