Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. You might have to reach for the answer to this question. Where is the acnestis located?

Answer: Between the shoulder blades

Acnestis means the part of an animal's body that it cannot reach itself to scratch. On the human body the acnestis is that part of the back in between the shoulder blades that cannot be reached (and you know this if you have an itch in that location!) The word comes from the Greek word aknestis, meaning spine. The word is rarely used.
2. Where on the body is the glabella located? Perhaps Frida Kahlo could help with this question.

Answer: Where a unibrow might meet

The glabella is the part of the skin in between the eyebrows and above the nose. It is that part where a unibrow would meet. The term also refers to the bone in the same spot that is slightly depressed. The word comes from the Latin word glabellus meaning smooth or hairless.
3. On what part of the hand is the lunula located?

Answer: Fingernail

The lunula is the little white-looking, crescent-moon shaped, bottom part of the fingernail (or toenail too.) It is a very delicate part of the nail structure and if it is damaged, the entire nail could become deformed. If the nail is removed, the lunula is still there, looking like a small nail left behind in the nail bed.

The lunula shows up on fetuses at about the fourteen week gestation point.
4. The smallest muscle in the body, called the stapedius, is located where?

Answer: Ear

The stapedius muscle is just over one millimeter in length! It's located in the ear and it functions to stabilize the stirrup bone. Despite its tiny size, it has a pretty important job. It serves to curb the volume of sound waves from the external environment to the inner ear.
5. The Dua's layer was reported as a new discovery in 2013. Where is this body part?

Answer: Eye

The discovery of Dua's layer as part of the cornea was detected for the first time by Professor Harminder Singh Dua and his team at the University of Nottingham. inch). Dua presented the finding in a 2013 paper, claiming that through optical and electron microscopy, a layer between the corneal stroma and Descemet's membrane was seen. Doubt has been cast on the existence of this layer, so more research is needed to substantiate the finding, or even disprove it.
6. Where would you find your hallux?

Answer: Foot

Hallux is a Latin term that means 'the largest toe' and refers to the big toe. The primary function of the big toe is to help minimize overpronation during the normal movement and usage of the foot when moving. There may be overpronation issues for individuals with shorter than typical big toes. An alternate name for the little toe, if you're curious, is 'minimus.'
7. Can you point out where your gnathion is located?

Answer: Face

Your gnathion is basically the middle of the lowest point on your chin. It is a spot from which craniometric measurements are taken. The word comes from Greek 'gnathos' meaning jaw.
8. Where is your niddick?

Answer: Neck

Niddick is a British/Welsh term from the sixteenth century which means nape of the neck. The nape is at the back of the neck at the base, where the back of the hair starts. In animals, it is the loose point at the back of the neck from which mothers carry their young.
9. Where is the purlicue on the body?

Answer: Hand

The purlicue is the space or distance between the thumb and the forefinger. When you make an L shape by extending the thumb and forefinger, that distance or space in between is called the purlicue. The word seems to be regionally used in Northern England.
10. Think about this one. Where is Broca's area located?

Answer: Brain

Broca's area is part of the frontal lobe in the brain, usually in the left hemisphere, and has functions related to speech. For a while it was believed that it served a purpose in terms of speech production only but there is some evidence to suggest that it also functions in speech comprehension as well. French physician Pierre Paul Broca worked with two patients who lost the ability to speak due to injury to the frontal lobe.

As a result of his work the general area of the brain that he identified while working with those patients has been called Broca's area.
