Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who crashed in qualifying?

Answer: Ralf Schumacher

Ralf Schumacher crashed in the Tabac corner on his first qualifying lap. Schumacher's Toyota was also involved in a rare multi-car crash in a practice session - which involved Juan-Pablo Montoya, David Coulthard and Jacques Villeneuve. Montoya was found guilty of brake-checking at one of the fastest areas on the track and was punished.

He would have to start the race from the back of the gird (along with Ralf, who never set a time).
2. Which team was not present in Monaco?

Answer: B.A.R.

The B.A.R. team was not present in Monte Carlo as they were serving the second part of a two-race ban after they were found guilty of cheating. Jenson Button's car was found to be illegally under-weight during a post-race inspection at the San Marino Grand Prix and the team was banned after a disciplinary hearing with the sport's governing body, the FIA.
3. Whose car caused a crash early in the race, and forced the safety car to be deployed?

Answer: Christijan Albers

Albers spun at the Mirabeau corner. This caused David Coulthard to slow down and Michael Schumacher could not avoid hitting him. Very soon, the second Ferrari of Rubens Barrichello and the two Saubers had joined the party and ground to a halt. The track was blocked and the safety car was deployed. All the cars involved, except Coulthard, were able to continue.
4. Which driver crashed heavily upon exiting the tunnel?

Answer: Patrick Friesacher

Friesacher crashed his Minardi Cosworth as he was breaking for the Nouvelle Chicane, which is just after the tunnel. Despite crashing at a high speed, he escaped unhurt.
5. Did Kimi Raikkonen win the race?

Answer: Yes

Pole-sitter Raikkonen comfortably won the race. He led every lap.
6. How many laps were completed?

Answer: 78

78 laps were contested in Monaco. The drivers complete more laps at this circuit than on any other, because Monaco is the shortest track on the calendar. The Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium is the longest track - where just 44 laps are run.
7. Both BMW-Williams drivers achieved their best individual career finishes.

Answer: True

German Nick Heidfeld finished a career best second, bettering his two third place finishes in Brazil 2001 and Malaysia 2005. Australian Mark Webber finished third, bettering his fourth place in Bahrain 2005.
8. Which team embarassingly saw their cars take each other out of contention for a points-scoring finish?

Answer: Sauber

Canadian Jacques Villeneuve attempted a passing manoeuvre on team-mate Felipe Massa late in the race as both cars were heading for a points-scoring finish. Villeneuve out-braked himself and slid into the barriers, blocking Massa's path. Although both cars continued, they lost several positions and finished outside of the points.
9. Which of these drivers failed to score world championship points in the race?

Answer: Vitantonio Liuzzi

Mark Webber finished third, Juan-Pablo Montoya finished fifth and Michael Schumacher finished seventh. Only the top eight drivers score points. Liuzzi retired after 59 laps after a minor crash broke his suspension.
10. What is traditionally different about the podium celebrations at Monaco?

Answer: There isn't actually a podium

As the circuit is only temporary, there is no podium at Monaco, just the white steps, where the top three drivers receive their trophies and then spray champagne.
