Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Ninth race of the season was held at Nurburgring in Nuremburg on June 23rd. Who was fastest in Saturday's qualifying?

Answer: J.P. Montoya

Montoya was .009 seconds faster than team mate Ralf. Michael was in third. This was Montoya's third consecutive pole position.
2. The Nurburgring was redesigned for the 2002 season.

Answer: True

The first corner chicane was made tighter, the short straight before Ford-Kurve was also changed.
3. Before the European Grand Prix, there were rumours that Jenson Button would not race for Renault in the 2003 season. Who was announced as his replacement?

Answer: Fernando Alonso

Fernando Alonso was managed by Renault Boss Flavio Briatore. However this was announced much later during the French Grand Prix.
4. At the European Grand Prix, the dog fight between Montoya and Coulthard ended with both drivers retiring. Montoya blamed it on his Michelin tyres. During which lap did both the drivers retire?

Answer: 27

It happened at the first turn, Coulthard tried to take the outside but Montoya refused to give way; both ended up taking a lift from a marshal.
5. Who won the European Grand Prix?

Answer: Rubens Barrichello

It was widely feared that the race would result in another Austria type farce. However the fears were unfounded as Rubens crossed the finishing line ahead of Michael. Total Laps were 60 (5.1024 Kilometre) for a total race distance of 306.844 Kilometres. Fastest lap was by Michael Schumacher.
6. The tenth race of the season was held at Silverstone in England on July 7, 2002. After a disastrous race the previous year (due to weather), much was expected from this race. Who was fastest in Saturday's qualifying?

Answer: J.P. Montoya

J.P. Montoya was becoming more of a qualifying expert - this was his fourth consecutive pole position.
7. The British Grand Prix highlighted the differences between the two tyres manufacturers - Bridgestone proving their overwhelming superiority in wet- weather and intermediate tyres.

Answer: True

Five of the top six were using Bridgestone tyres; the lone exception being J.P. Montoya who came in third place. However the most humorous part (not if you are a McLaren fan) was the 8 pit stops taken by their two drivers, most of them being tyre changes - in one such tyre change, they put slick tyres on Coulthard's car (when it was pouring!).
8. This was the best race of the season for BAR Honda - this race helped a lot in getting Honda to work with them for the 2003 season. How many points did they get at the British Grand Prix?

Answer: 5

Villeneuve came in fourth and Panis fifth for a total of 5 points - their first points for the season.
9. Alex Yoong didn't qualify for the British Grand Prix because he didn't meet the 107% qualifying time rule.

Answer: True

He was the only driver not to have qualified. Alan McNish qualified but stalled on grid due to a clutch problem.
10. Michael Schumacher won the British Grand Prix, 2002.

Answer: True

Total Laps were 60 (5.110 Kilometres) for a total race distance of 306.579. Fastest on track was Rubens Barrichello.
