The Prologue was 3.1km in length. Frantisek Rabon won the stage. Sandy Casar missed the stage win by two seconds. Alejandro Valverde placed third overall, losing by three seconds. Frantisek rode for Team Columbia-High Road.
2. Stage 1 was intended to be a very long flat stage, but it ended up being cut in half. Why was Stage 1 shortened?

Answer: Snow

The stage was supposed to be 176.2km, but due to the amount snow on the road it was shortened to 87.6km. Just 22km into the stage a three-man breakaway began. Gregory Rast, Ricardo Serano, and Lars Bak made of the break. The breakaway would survive by just 28 seconds. Ricardo Serrano edged out Lars Bak for the stage victory. Ricardo rode for Fuji-Servetto.

Stage 2's breakaway was just composed of Florent Brard and Mathieu Sprick. The two jumped off the front of the peloton at the beginning of the stage. The breakaway would eventually be caught with about 20km left in the stage. Oscar Freire sprinted to the stage victory. Oscar rode for Rabobank.

Roman rode for Liquigas.

Answer: Caisse d'Epargne

The first leader of the Team Classification was Francaise des Jeux. They held the lead for only one stage, before relinquishing the lead to Astana. Astana held the lead for two stages. After the critical Stage 3 Team Time Trial Team Columbia-High Road claimed the lead.

They lost the lead to Caisse d'Epargne after Stage 4 ended. Caisse d'Epargne held on to the lead for the rest of the tour.
