Dale Earnhardt's attempt at back-to-back Daytona 500 wins was spoiled by Jeff Gordon. Earnhardt failed to lead a lap in the race after starting fourth. Rusty Wallace led the most laps but lost the lead to Jeff Gordon on lap 190.
