Answer: Cael Sanderson

Cael Sanderson's final record was 159-0. He was four-time NCAA champ and the Olympic gold medalist at Athens 2004. He later coached wrestling at Penn State. Dan Gable got close, but lost one match giving him a record of 181-1.

Answer: Freestyle and Greco-Roman

Freestyle and Greco are the only types in the Olympics, and is one of the oldest sports in the Olympics also. The major difference between greco and freestyle is that in greco there can be no hold beneath the waist, which thus encourages more throws in order to achieve a pinfall.

Answer: A five-second near fall

A five-second near fall will get you three well earned points. A three-second near fall and reversal will only get you 2, while an escape will only take one. A near fall is called when a wrestler has his opponent' shoulders less than 4 inches to the mat, or when one shoulder is on the mat and the other is less than a 45 degree angle.

Answer: Singlets

A singlet is a one-piece uniform made normally of spandex lycra or nylon, and are designed for the referee to help see the wrestler's body when awarding points. The singlet can also help the referee identify teams, but red and green ankle bands are often worn additionally for similar purposes.

Wrestlers are known for some pretty nasty skin problems if the mats; or the actual wrestlers aren't washed properly. Impetigo is a highly contagious bacterial infection. It can be quite nasty to have luckily though it's easy to treat with medicine.

Answer: Cauliflower Ear

Cauliflower ear is when a fluid builds up in the upper portion of the ear. The fluid separates the cartilage from getting nutrients which causes it to die, and gives the ear a cauliflower like appearance. Unfortunately, because wrestlers particularly get knocked around, wrestlers are especially susceptible to the condition.

This is one of the many reasons why wrestlers need to wear head gear.
8. How many weight classes are there in most high school wrestling competitions, and in NCAA college wrestling in the USA?

Answer: 14 in high school, 10 in college

In high school there are more weight classes and they start lower at 103 while in college the weight classes start at 125. The scholastic weight classes are 103, 112, 119, 125, 130, 135, 140, 145, 152, 160, 171, 180, 215 and 285. College classes go 125, 133, 141, 149, 157, 165, 174, 184, 197 and heavyweight. Some states have slightly different weight classes like Montana with 105 pounds and New York with a 98 pound weight class.

The number of weight classes varies in some states. The number in college wrestling NCWA is 11 classes, not 10 as in the NCAA.
9. What is a spladle?

Answer: A split leg cradle

The spladle is exactly as it sounds a cradle that was modified using split legs. Here's a brief breakdown, you first hook your opponents' right leg with your left leg and then reach for the ankle. The opponent will likely tripod which will help you get leverage.

Then while controlling their upper body, pull the opponents left leg wide and splay the other leg with your left foot rolling the opponent over. Then grab his calf with your left hand and your right to grab their heel. Finally, use your leg to pull the opponents other leg back and you have just hit a spladle.
10. If it is a dual meet, what does that mean?

Answer: Team vs. team

In a dual style meet, teams are set up in brackets and wrestle each other using the team score to indicate who won.
