Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following moves is used to break the bottom man down?

Answer: Spiral ride

The spiral ride may be the most basic of breakdowns, and sets up so many moves. It can set you up for leg rides and most pinning combinations.
2. How many points is an escape worth?

Answer: One point

You get 1 point for escape and 2 for a reversal, and in college you get riding points for holding the bottom man down for a minute, each minute is 1 point. When you're on top, its always better to give up 1 for the escape rather than 2 for a reversal.
3. What was the great John Smith's famous takedown?

Answer: Low Level Single

It is also called the John Smith single.
4. How many points is a 5 second near fall worth?

Answer: Three

5 points are awarded for a 5 second count near fall, but 2 points for a 2 second count near fall.
5. Which situation will not cause a stalling call?

Answer: Taking too many shots

Each wrestler is required to make an attempt to continue action in the circle and wrestle aggressively at all times. When a referee sees stalling, he will warn the wrestler who is stalling. Further violations will be penalized.
6. How many weight classes are there in most sanctioned high school competitions?

Answer: 14

The weight classes are 103, 112, 119, 125, 130, 135, 140, 145, 152, 160, 171, 189, 215, 285. The actual weight classes differ by state.
7. How many team points is a technical fall?

Answer: Five points

You get different team points for different ways of winning. Five for technical falls, six for pins, four for a major decision, and three for a decision.
8. What is it called when you are in the top and bottom position?

Answer: Referees positon

This is where both top and bottom man start at the center of the mat with one wrestler (in the defensive starting position) on the bottom with his hands in front of the starting line and his knees behind the starting line in with his legs held together.

The other wrestler on the top (in the offensive starting position) then kneels beside him with one arm wrapped around the bottom man's waist with his hand on his belly button and the other hand on the bottom man's near elbow for control.
9. How many stall warnings do you get before your opponent is awarded points?

Answer: One

A warning is given after the first time, and if there is another occurrence the penalty point is given. In other situations, there is no warning and penalty points aregiven right away due to severity.
10. How many points do you get for an illegal hold?

Answer: One

Potentially dangerous holds are when a body part is streched to the limit of the normal range of movement. The referee will caution a wrestler against forcing a hold like that, however, he will not stop wrestling action unless it is going to hurt someone.
