Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the mid 1990s, former champ and NASCAR commentator Benny Parsons told Jack Roush to hire this person as a driver or watch him win with another team. Who was it?

Answer: Greg Biffle

Roush did just that, and Biffle went on to win the Craftsman Truck Series title in 2000 and the Busch Series Title in 2002. In the Nextel Cup, he amassed six victories in 2005 which resulted in a second place finish in the standings. Sadly, Parsons passed away on January 16, 2007.
2. Which driver is the most victorious driver of all-time without ever winning a title?

Answer: Junior Johnson

He amassed 50 victories as a driver from 1956 to 1966 but no title to show for it, but Johnson's venture as a car owner was more successful, winning three consecutive titles with Cale Yarborough (1978-79-80) and three titles with Darrell Waltrip (1981,82,85).
3. In the 2006 Daytona 500, Bill Elliott did something he hasn't done since the Rockingham fall race in 1979. What was it?

Answer: He drove a Chevrolet

Bill Elliott drove #36 car which was owned by Nelson Bowers. For a day, he was teammates with Joe Nemechek and Sterling Marlin. He finished 19th in that race.
4. Who was the last person to drive the famous #28 car before the number was sidelined in 2002?

Answer: Ricky Rudd

Rudd drove this car for Robert Yates. Some say the car number is cursed since it was driven by the late Davey Allison and the late Kenny Irwin Jr.
5. When Kevin Harvick started driving the Goodwrench car after Earnhardt's death in 2001, how many attempts did it take for him to win a race?

Answer: 3

Harvick started driving for Childress since the second race of the 2001 season (Rockingham) and won after narrowly beating Jeff Gordon in Atlanta. There wasn't a dry eye that day in the #29 pits.
6. Because of the enormously high speeds at Daytona and Talladega, restrictor plates had to be used in the early 1990s at those tracks to slow cars down. During the 2000 season, there was one other track that required restrictor plates. What was it?

Answer: New Hampshire International Speedway

During that year, the NASCAR world lost Kenny Irwin and Adam Petty on the same track, so officials mandated that all cars would have restrictor plates in the fall race at Loudon. This was the only time this rule occurred.
7. During the 2006 season, who was the oldest driver to compete in a NASCAR Nextel Cup race?

Answer: Morgan Shepherd

He turned 65 in October 2006. He raced in the fall Richmond and Loudon race. Shepherd had been racing in the Cup series since 1970. The four-time race winner started racing full time in 1981, and went back to racing partial schedules in 1997.
8. When did Jeff Gordon's contract expire with Rick Hendrick Motorsports?

Answer: It was a lifetime contract

Jeff Gordon signed a contract stating he will remain with Hendrick during the rest of his career. He retired in 2016.
9. Greg Biffle won the Rookie of the Year title in 2003.

Answer: False

Jamie McMurray, who went winless that season, took the award. Biffle received his first win at the Pepsi 400 in Daytona, but his failure to qualify for the spring Las Vegas race pretty much ended his hopes for winning ROTY.
10. Who was the most winningest driver in the 2006 season?

Answer: Kasey Kahne

Despite seeing victory lane six times, he finished the season in eighth place in the point standings.
