Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. With which team did Hank Aaron hit home run number 715 to take sole possession of the career home run record?

Answer: Atlanta Braves

I do not know how many times I have seen the video of the home run, it really is amazing to watch. Home run number 715 on April 8, 1974 meant that Aaron passed Babe Ruth on the all-time home run list to become home run champ until Barry Bonds took the title in 2007.
2. Harvey Haddix took a perfect game into the 13th inning and ended up losing the game while playing for which team?

Answer: Pittsburgh Pirates

On May 26, 1959, Haddix pitched for the Pirates in a game against the Milwaukee Braves. He was pitching lights out the whole game, but could not finish it out in extra innings because his team was not scoring any runs. The first batter for the Braves in the 13th inning, Felix Mantilla, reached first on an error by 3rd baseman, Dan Hoak, ending the "perfecto" run.

The Braves managed to score a run in this inning, so Haddix also had to take a loss that day.
3. With which team did Randy Johnson pitch a perfect game for in 2004?

Answer: Arizona Diamondbacks

On Tuesday May 18, 2004, Randy Johnson became the oldest pitcher to ever toss a perfect game by perfecting the Atlanta Braves. He struck out 13 in 117 pitches with only 30 balls.
4. Barry Bonds hit a record-setting 73 home runs in one season while playing for this team.

Answer: San Francisco Giants

In the 2001 season, Barry Bonds blasted 73 home runs in the season to take the record from Mark McGwire who had hit 70 in 1998.
5. Orel Hershiser won his one and only Cy Young award while pitching for which team?

Answer: Los Angeles Dodgers

Hershiser won the award by going 23-8 with a 2.26 ERA in 1988.
6. With which team did Ty Cobb win his one and only MVP award?

Answer: Detroit Tigers

Cobb easily won the MVP in 1911 with a batting average of .420 and an RBI total of 127.
7. Which team benefited from Rickey Henderson and his 130 stolen bases?

Answer: Oakland Athletics

Henderson's 130 stolen bases in 1982 was second on the single season record list. He sat behind Hugh Nicol, who stole 138 in 1887 for the Cincinnati Red Stockings.
8. Hack Wilson drove in a record-setting 191 runs while playing for which team?

Answer: Chicago Cubs

Wilson had amazing numbers in 1930 with a BA of .356, 56 HR's, and 191 RBI. Unfortunately neither league gave out an MVP award due to credibility issues with it. Wilson was awarded an unofficial MVP award by the Baseball Writers' Association of America.
9. Roger Clemens pitched two seperate games in which he had 20 strikeouts, both for which team?

Answer: Boston Red Sox

The first time Clemens accomplished this feat was in 1986 at the age of 23. The second time was in 1996 at the age of 33. 20 strikeouts in a nine inning game set a Major League record. It has been accomplished also Kerry Wood, and Randy Johnson.
10. Marty Barrett knocked 13 base hits in one World Series while playing for which team?

Answer: Boston Red Sox

It was the famous 1986 World Series in which Barrett knocked his 13 hits. Of course, this is the series where Bill Buckner allowed a ball through his legs at first, which let in the tying run. The series went on to game seven where the curse of the Bambino struck again, giving the New York Mets the World Series title despite Barret's best efforts.
