Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many starting players are there on a major league baseball team?

Answer: 9

There are nine starters on a MLB team: The pitcher, the catcher, the first baseman, the second baseman, the shortstop, the third baseman, the left fielder, the right fielder, and the center fielder. In the American League, the Designated Hitter is the 10th starter, but the DH does not play on the field!
2. If a batter has less than two strikes, foul balls count as strikes.

Answer: True

As long as the batter doesn't have two strikes, their foul balls count as strikes. For example, if a batter comes up to the plate and hits two foul balls right away, he has 2 strikes on him, but any foul balls after that do not count as strikes.
3. If a batter has a full count, which is his pitch count?

Answer: 3-2

A full count refers to the batter having the most balls and strikes he can have, which are three balls and two strikes. If the batter gets one more ball he walks, and if the batter gets one more strike he strikes out! In a count, the balls are always said before the strikes (3-2 = 3 balls, 2 strikes.)
4. The umpires in the game usually wear the color ____.

Answer: blue or black

Umpires usually wear the color blue, and even sometimes black, and can be referred to as "blue" when a player or coach does not know the name of the umpire!
5. The shortstop plays between which two bases?

Answer: 2nd and 3rd

The shortstop plays between 2nd and 3rd, and the second baseman plays between 1st and 2nd.
