Question 1 of 10
1. Passion is the first step in building a perfect player. No one had the intensity this player had. His eyes alone were enough to melt an opposing teams confidence. Who is this player nicknamed "The Rocket", that played 18 seasons with Montreal Canadiens from 1942 to 1960? Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. What is passion without talent. This goal scorer and set up man holds over 50 NHL records. He made his start in the defunct World Hockey Association and then joined the NHL in 1979. Who is this player that played for 4 different teams before ironically retiring in 1999? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. Voted as the number 2 best player ever, this defenseman had a stellar career despite having it shortened because of knee trouble. He played in the NHL from 1966 to 1979, though his last 3 years were disrupted by injury trouble. Who is this player that played just 26 games total for Chicago in those last 3 years? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. Offensive defencemen aside, a player must have defensive capabilities as well. This Boston Bruin, standing 6 feet 8 inches tall, is fearsome and smart with and without the puck. He is a steady force on the back end beginning his career with the New York Islanders in 1997 and then for the Ottawa Senators before becoming a Bruin in 2006. Can you name him? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. This 22 year veteran of Detroit Red Wing hockey is one of the smoothest skaters the game had ever known. A perfect hockey player will take to the ice like a hot knife through butter. Once retiring he settled in as Assistant General Manager in Detroit. Who is the player that then moved on to become General Manager for the Tampa Bay Lightning? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. A team needs a leader. Someone to take charge in the dressing room and on the ice. The general consensus among players is that this player is one of the greatest leaders the game has ever known. He began his career in 1979 with Edmonton before moving to the New York Rangers. He then became a Vancouver Canuck and then again back to the Rangers. Who is this player that captained every team he played for in the NHL? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. One of the most exciting goal scoring techniques is the one-timer. This is when the player shoots the puck when it's passed to him without stopping it first. It takes real talent to time this right and get the shot off, it takes even more talent to put it on net and score. This player began playing for the Lightning in 2008. Who is this player that in 4 years has scored more than he has assisted 3 out of 4 years? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. Hitting is a tool in the NHL just like shooting, passing or positional play. A perfect player would have to be able to know when to commit to a check on opposing players and to make sure such a hit is complete and does the job to stop a play or player. This former number one pick overall for the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1985 is one of my favourite hitters if not one of the best checkers ever. Do you know who I'm talking about? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. As Don Cherry would say, "What's a game without the odd tussle?" Fighting in the NHL is something that bolsters a teams confidence and can lead to a stronger offence which of course can lead to a goal. There is a lot of tough guys and a lot of scrappers, but this guy was a fighter. He was one half of the "Bruise Brothers" with Joey Kocur. Do you know who this player is that played 9 seasons with Detroit and 7 with Chicago from 1985 to 2002? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. Well you can score all the goals you want but if you can't keep them out of your own net, it's meaningless. A complete hockey player may not be a goalie too but after nine previous questions about out players we should note the 'tenders as well. Who is the outstanding goalie that has the most wins and 119 shutouts in the NHL. Hint

He played in the NHL from 1966 to 1979, though his last 3 years were disrupted by injury trouble. Who is this player that played just 26 games total for Chicago in those last 3 years?

Answer: Bobby Orr

Bobby Orr was arguably the most phenomenal defenseman ever to don skates. He is a two time Art Ross winner for most points in a season. Including the Art Ross awards, Orr won 17 NHL trophies. This includes as well a record 8 James Norris trophies for best defenseman.

He played 9 years as a Boston Bruin and the last 3 years as a Chicago Blackhawk. Imagine if he could have stayed healthy and played another 8 years. The other 3 answers are All Star defensemen in their own right.

Answer: Zdeno Chara

In 14 seasons, Chara has only had 4 years where he wasn't a plus player, having been on the ice for more goals for than against. In his last 5 years he has groomed his game to being able to start a play up the ice and stop opponents in his own end.

Answer: Steve Yzerman

During the tough years while Detroit was rebuilding Yzerman consistently put up big numbers for the team and led by example. He finished his career with 1514 regular season games and 1755 points. He has 4 league trophies awarded to him.

Who is this player that captained every team he played for in the NHL?

Answer: Mark Messier

Mark Messier played with some fine teams and captained each of them. He led the Oilers to 5 Stanley Cups and Rangers to one. He finished an incredible 24 year career with 1756 regular season games and 1887 points. He was also awarded 5 personal trophies including 2 Hart awards for Most Valuable Player. Each of the other answers are teammates from each of the teams he was on.

Answer: Steven Stamkos

Though all four of the answers are prolific goal scorers, Steven Stamkos has one of the best one-timers in the game. He shared the 'Rocket' Richard Trophy in 2010 with Sidney Crosby for most goals in the season with 51.

Answer: Wendel Clark

Wendel Clark played with a heart as big as his checks. A fan favourite in Toronto, he also played for the Quebec Nordiques, the New York Islanders, Tampa Bay Lightning, Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks. He returned to the Toronto Maple Leafs to finish his career in 2000. He had 564 points in 793 regular season games, but more interestingly he had 1690 minutes in penalties.

Answer: Bob Probert

Interesting to note is that Probert wasn't just a fighter. He had hockey talent too. He scored 163 goals and 384 points over his 16 year career. He was also a feared fighter having the stamina to outlast his opponents in one of sports most gruelling endeavours, the hockey fight.

He once had a 100 second fight with Marty McSorley of the Pittsburgh Penguins. He amassed 3300 career penalty minutes. The other answers are hockey players noted for their pugilistic abilities as well.

Answer: Martin Brodeur

This should be an easy one. New Jersey Devil goalie Martin Brodeur has the most shutouts in regular season play and has the most wins having taken the title away from Montreal Canadiens/Colorado Avalanche goalie Patrick Roy. Brodeur has 9 NHL awards including 4 Vezinas, for best goalie in the NHL and the Calder Award for Rookie of the Year. Joseph played for several NHL Teams including the St. Louis Blues, Edmonton, Toronto, Detroit and Calgary Flames. Grant Fuhr is a Hall of Famer and one of my favourites of all time.

He played for Edmonton, Toronto, Buffalo Sabres, Los Angeles, St. Louis and Calgary.
