Chelios won his first Norris award in 1989, while playing for the Montreal Canadians. He posted 73 points that season, and had a 35 plus/minus rating. He won his second Norris trophy in 1994, as a member of the Chicago Blackhawks.

Aaron Ward played several seasons for the Detroit Red Wings from 1993-94, to 2000-01, before being traded to the Carolina Hurricanes for a draft pick. The Canes ended up being the Red Wing's Eastern Conference opponent, in the 2002 Stanley Cup Finals.

In the 1994-95 season, he was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers with John Leclair and Gibert Dionne, in exchange for Mark Recchi. Desjardins has won the Barry Ashbee award (Flyer's Best Defenseman), six times since the trade.
