Answer: Herman

George Herman Ruth, born in Baltimore in 1895, had a well documented Major League career. He began his career with the Red Sox from 1914-1919, then the Yankees from 1920-1934. His final season was as a Boston Brave, where he retired in 1935. The Babe died at the age of 53 in 1948.
2. When Hank Aaron retired in 1976, he stepped down with the most home runs ever hit in a career with 755. What name was caught in the middle of Henry Aaron?

Answer: Louis

Henry Louis 'Hank' Aaron played 21 of his 23 seasons with the Braves. Surprisingly, Hank never hit 50 home runs in a season.
3. Cy Young was such a great pitcher, that an award was named after him. Cy was a nickname short for Cyclone. Young was born on March 29, 1867, as Denton _______ Young.

Answer: True

Young played his career from 1890-1911. The Cy Young award began in 1956, awarded to the most outstanding pitcher in the Major Leagues. In 1967, the award was altered and given out to the most outstanding pitcher in both the National and American League. In 1956, Dodger pitcher Don Newcombe won the inaugural award.
4. The strikeout king of baseball, Nolan Ryan, retired with 5714 career strikeouts. What was his born middle name?

Answer: Nolan

Lynn Nolan Ryan Jr., nicknamed the 'Ryan Express', played with four teams from 1966-1993. Nolan led the league an amazing 11 times with most strikeouts. Strangely enough, Ryan never won a Cy Young or MVP award. Ryan was inducted into the hall in 1999 with an amazing 99% of the ballots, equalling Tom Seaver's feat in 1992.
5. Lawrence "Yogi" Berra, a Yankee great during his entire career, had the middle name of what?

Answer: Peter

Lawrence Peter Berra, a tremendous Yankee for 19 seasons, retired in 1965 with 358 home runs. His official height at retirement was 5'8", so a well-built package he has. He went to a ridiculous 14 World Series in his 19 seasons, with 10-4 record. Baseball was very good to Yogi, as he was for baseball. The Hall of Fame took him in 1972.
6. The Dodgers' MVP, multiple Cy Young, and multiple Triple Crown winner, Sandy Koufax, was actually born Sanford Braun in 1935. What was his middle name after changing his name to Sanford Koufax?

Answer: He didn't have one

Sandy never had a middle name, born or later changed. Koufax had a Cinderella career with the Dodgers and sprouted from 1961-1966. In his final season in 1966, he went 27-9. He retired due to elbow problems. He was also famous for refusing to pitch in a World Series game which conflicted with a Jewish holiday. Don Drysdale moved up in the rotation to fill his spot.

Answer: Dornel

Wilver Dornel Stargell was Oklahoma-born in 1940. His first shot at the Major Leagues came in 1962. It would not be until the following season that he would begin to put home runs in his stat book. His 48 in 1971 earned him runner-up honors to the MVP behind the Cardinals' Joe Torre.
8. Jack 'Jackie' Robinson broke the Major League color barrier in 1947 by playing with the Brooklyn Dodgers. He won the Rookie of the Year award, then won the NL MVP in 1949. What was Jackie's middle name?

Answer: Roosevelt

Branch Rickey took the 28-year old rookie under his wing and guided Robinson through the trying times of breaking the color barrier. Jackie played for only 10 seasons with the Dodgers before retiring in 1956. Robinson's historical venture opened the door for all ethnic groups into the big leagues. Cleveland Indian Larry Doby was the first American League black player.
9. Yankee pitching great Whitey Ford, was born Edward ______ Ford.

Answer: Charles

Edward Charles Ford earned the nickname of 'Chairman of the Board' due to his arm with the Yankees. 16 seasons in the pinstripes took him to 11 World Series. Ford pitched in 22 World Series games, going 10-8. Whitey retired in 1967.
10. Lou Gehrig had the nickname of the 'Iron Horse' and 'Biscuit Pants', names that certainly conflicted with each other. What was this career Yankee's born middle name?

Answer: Heinrich

Born Ludwig Heinrich Gehrig in 1903, his name was later changed to Henry Louis Gehrig. The 20-year old rookie in 1923 was a quiet person, which contrasted with teammate Babe Ruth. 1927 was a stellar season for Gehrig who hit .373 with 218 hits and 47 home runs, earning him the AL MVP award.

He won the Triple Crown in 1934, then another MVP in 1936. Retiring due to illness in 1939, and being inducted into the Hall of Fame the same year, Lou died in 1941.
