From the age of 11, Nick helped his dad at the gas station while his mother and sister ran the Dairy Queen. He also played football for his dad and credits his father with giving him a strong work ethic.

Saban was the QB for Monongah High and led them to an undefeated championship season his senior year. He was a player at Kent State under Don James and won the MAC championship. He also led Toledo to a share of the MAC Championship as head coach. As the head coach of the LSU Tigers, Saban led LSU to a 31-20 upset win over Tennessee to win the 2001 SEC Championship in his second season.
