The University of Nebraska is located in Lincoln, NE, the state capital. The legendary coach was Tom Osborne, who retired after the 1997 season (and later won a seat in the US Congress), when he won a share of another National Championship. The University of Washington is in Seattle, WA; the University of Alabama is in Tuscaloosa, AL; the University of Arizona is in Tucson, AZ.

The 19th state admitted to the Union was Indiana, and Notre Dame is in South Bend. Ronald Reagan played Irish player George Gipp in the movie 'Knute Rockne All American,' which was released in 1940. Sean Astin played Daniel 'Rudy' Ruettiger, a long shot who had a dream to run out onto the field at Notre Dame Stadium as a player, which he got to do near the end of the movie. Astin is also well known for playing 'Sam' in 'The Lord of the Rings' trilogy. UCLA (the University of California-Los Angeles) is in (surprise) Los Angeles (or technically Westwood Village, which is a part of LA). North Carolina State is in Raleigh, NC, and the University of Texas is in Austin, TX.

'The Shoe' is Ohio Stadium, home of the Ohio State Buckeyes. 'Le Regiment' is played during the famous march 'Script Ohio,' well known for a sousaphone player dotting the 'i' in Ohio (the march is very well done, and I would suggest you get a chance to see the whole thing...not just the dotting of the I they show on TV). I've heard 'Fight the Team Across the Field' also called 'Fight the Team' and 'Across the Field.' Another Ohio State fight song is 'Buckeye Battle Cry,' which the band plays after every Ohio State TD. Tempe is home to Arizona State University; Tallahassee is home to Florida State University; Boulder is home to the University of Colorado.

The states that are commonwealths are Massachusetts, Virginia, Kentucky, and Pennsylvania (commonwealth has to do with how they were set-up when they became colonies). Puerto Rico is also a commonwealth. The gun slinging QB is Doug Flutie, who won the Heisman trophy in 1984.

He played for the Chicago Bears, New England Patriots, Buffalo Bills, and San Diego Chargers in the NFL. Louisville University is in, believe it or not, Louisville, KY; the University of Virginia is in Charlottesville, VA (and was founded by Thomas Jefferson); the University of Florida is in Gainesville, FL.

After the 2004 season, the University of Southern California soundly beat the University of Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl for the National Championship. Many people believe Auburn should have been in that game instead of Oklahoma. That Heisman Trophy winner was Bo Jackson, who won it in 1985.

He played in the NFL for the Raiders, and played major league baseball for the Kansas City Royals, the Chicago White Sox, and the California Angles. Legion Field is in Birmingham, AL, and used to play host to some of the University of Alabama's home games, and was also the site for many years of the Alabama vs. Auburn game (also know as the "Iron Bowl"). Neyland stadium is in Knoxville, TN, and is home to the University of Tennessee. Wallace Wade Stadium is in Durham, NC, and is home to Duke University.

"The Play" was at the end of the 1982 game between Stanford and Cal. Cal was trailing and, on the last play of the game, they executed several backwards passes during a kickoff return, to score a TD, and win the game. Super Bowl XIX, was a 38-16 victory for San Francisco over Miami.

Incidentally, that was Dan Marino's (of the Miami Dolphins) only Super Bowl appearance. The alum that lead "The Drive" was QB Joe Montana (the Stanford QB was John Elway). There are actually two Universities of Miami - one in Florida and one in Ohio. Colorado State is located in Fort Collins, CO, and the University of Hawaii is in Honolulu, HI.

Clemson University plays in the other "Death Valley," which is in Clemson, SC. Louisiana State (LSU) is located in Baton Rouge, LA, and their nickname is the Tigers. 'Pistol Pete' is Pete Maravich, who played basketball at LSU (another famous LSU basketball player is Shaquille O'Neal).

The University of Arkansas is in Fayetteville, AR, and, as mentioned, the University of Florida is in Gainesville.

OK, I must admit, I put Texas Tech on the quiz because I like Spike Dykes's name. The famous basketball coach who went to Texas Tech is Bobby Knight. Baylor University is in Waco, TX; the University of North Carolina is in Chapel Hill, NC; Wake Forest University is in Winston Salem, NC.

The University of Central Florida (UCF) is located in Orlando, FL, and UCF's nickname is the Golden Knights. The Minnesota Vikings of the NFL drafted Culpepper in 1999. UCF's home stadium is the Citrus Bowl, which plays home to the Capital One Bowl (formerly the Citrus Bowl). San Diego State is in San Diego, CA, and its most famous football alum is Marshall Faulk. Georgia Southern University is located in Statesboro, GA, and is a Division I-AA program.

The University of Southern Mississippi is located in Hattiesburg, MS and is the alma mater of Brett Favre.

Answer: Michigan State University

The instate rival I was speaking of was the University of Michigan, located in Ann Arbor, MI. Michigan State is in East Lansing, MI. In the 1966 game with Notre Dame, the score was tied 10-10 late in the game. Rather than drive for the win, Irish coach Ara Parseghian decided to run out the clock and take the tie. Notre Dame ended up winning the National Championship. Also, Nick Saban was the Michigan State head coach beginning in 1995. Before taking over at Michigan State, he was defensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns of the NFL.

He left Michigan State after the 1999 season to become head coach at LSU. Then, in 2005, he became the head man for the Miami Dolphins. Texas A & M is located in College Station, TX; the University of Pittsburgh is in Pittsburgh, PA; Oklahoma State is in Stillwater, OK.
