LSU originally had the #1 rated class in 2003, but a late commit to USC by quarterback John David Booty pushed the Trojans ahead of the Tigers.

Bellevue snapped the De La Salle Sparten's 13 year win steak on Sept 4th at Seahawk Stadium in Seattle. It was De La Salle's first loss since 1991.

In the first overtime on 4th and 3, needing a TD to keep their national title hope alive, Ohio State QB Craig Kreznel threw to WR Chris Gamble in the end zone. The ball hit Gamble and fell incomplete. The line judge waved the signal for "Incomplete Pass" and the celebration begun.

But a late flag from backjudge Terry Porter gave Ohio State a first down on the Miami two yard line, and three plays later they were in the end zone. Ohio State went on to win the National Championship in the next overtime, in one of the most thrilling games in NCAA history.

In 1984, Washington went 11-1 and finished thier season with a win in the Orange Bowl against then #2 Oklahoma. Their only setback was a 16-7 loss against USC on November 10th. BYU finished the season undefeated, but the only good team they defeated the entire season was a Michigan team that finished 6-6 in the Holiday Bowl.

This is the reason most feel Washington deserved the title instead of BYU.
