Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many teams in the league had a chance to participate in European competions, thanks to their great results in the 2003/2004 season?

Answer: 5

The five teams were OB Odense and Esbjerg (UEFA Intertoto Cup), Brondby IF and Aalborg (UEFA Cup), and finally FC Kobenhavn (Champions League).
2. Ironically, FC Kobenhavn, despite being the 2003/2004 season champions, made the worst presentation out of all Danish clubs in the European competions. Why?

Answer: They beat Gorica, a low class soccer team, 2-1 in their away leg, but they lost a shocking 5-0 at the home leg.

It's true that there was a strike in Denmark that lasted a few weeks in the season, but this was way after Kobenhavn were disqualified.
They did score a goal in the competetion, two actually, against Gorica in the away leg.

And finally, there were SOME injured players in the home leg, but the key part of that option is that Erik Mykland was already retired from soccer at the time of this match.
3. Many consider that Esbjerg were the best team in the European competitions in 2004. Why?

Answer: They made it to the semifinals in the Intertoto Cup

They were considered the best because nobody expected them to make it to the semi-finals. Everybody thought that they would be eliminated in the first round.
4. Which of the following players scored nine goals in three games?

Answer: Steffen Hojer

He scored four in one game, a hat trick in another, and two in the next game. Nobody in Danish history had ever done such a scoring tally in three consecutive games.
5. Which of the following nationalities was not in the SAS Ligaen in 2004/2005?

Answer: Spanish

Herfolge's Joshua Gowling is English, while the same club's Jakub Droppa is Czech, and Esbjerg's Kolja Afriyie is German. Despite this, AGF's Danillo Arrieta does have some Spanish decent, but is officially a Dane.
6. Which of the following Danish clubs did not have players that played for their national team (excluding Danes)?

Answer: Silkeborg

FC Midtjylland had Ghana international Kwadwo Poku, Esbjerg had Swedish international Fredrik Berglund, and FC Nordjylland had an Asian champion, Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi, who captained Japan until success.
7. How many players in the 2004/2005 season played in the Japanese league before?

Answer: 2

AGF's Brian Steen Nielsen and FCN's Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi had played in the Japanese league, the latter being Japanese. The former Danish international played for 2004 Japanese champions Urawa Red Diamonds.
8. What was the name of the only American player in the league in the 2004/2005 season?

Answer: Yuri Morales

Yuri Morales played for Viborg. Wade Barrett was the only American player in the 2003-2004 season.
9. This player despite not being Danish, was so good and talented that Morten Olsen, the Danish national team coach, wanted him in the part of his squad. Therefore, the player decided to become a Danish citizen, but he needed to stay a couple more years in Denmark. His ambition was so great that he rejected offers from other clubs around Europe. Who was he?

Answer: Mohammed Zidan

Imants Bleidelis already was a Latvian international, so he's out. Razak Pimpong also was a Ghana international, so he's out too. Mohammed Zidan was an Egyptian star.
10. Which of the following nationalities was not in the SAS Ligaen in 2004/2005?

Answer: Zimbabwe

Ebrima Sowe was Gambian (Herfolge), Fernando Derveld was Dutch (OB), and Mehdi Guerrouad was Algerian (Viborg). Other nationalities in the league were Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Faroe Islandic, Icelandic, Hungarian, South African, English, Polish, Nigerian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Australian, Moroccan, Egyptian, Zambian, Finnish, Estonian, Brazilian, American, German, Czech, and Japanese.
